It is really sad to read all this rubbish about a great rider, but that is what you can expect from the English & Americans who happen to believe in they own way of cheating!!

Alberto confirms he'll go for the Tour-Vuelta double in 2014.

Not making it easy for himself. If history repeats he will be unable to beat Froome at the Tour then will be fatigued for the Vuelta. I hope he can surprise us though :)

Meh, the Tour-Vuelta Double thing from September 2013 will probably become the We'll See I'm Focused on the Tour in July 2014 and the I'm Really Tired Right Now in August 2014.

He always said "Tour is my main goal, we'll see if I'll ride la Vuelta after that".Now he's announcing he's doing it a year before already, he's definately gonna do it. He'll be a 9time GT winner this time next year

Who's going to support him? Who will be the team leader for the Giro this year? Saxo would be better off having a separate leader for each grand tour as this year. Majka 7th in giro, Contador 4th tour , Kreuziger 5th tour, Roche 5th Vuelta

So he will win Giro, Tour of California (same period, I know, but one it's by day and one by night), Tour and Vuelta next year? Now that's a man!

He has to get some wins against Froome prior to Tour in order to justify his presence. He also needs it for his confidence. I think it was airstream who suggested that Sky had made it a goal not to allow Contador to beat Froome in any prep stage race this year. If true, it worked.

Contador just has to sign his name to justify his presence at the Tour or else 194 other riders would have to explain why they even bother entering.

Not only that, he'll also end the economic crisis, bring world peace, cure cancer and more:eek:

To some of us he'll be a 9 time GT winner:rolleyes:

Apologies, I should have been clearer. I meant in order to justify his presence in his own mind. I was getting at the fact that at present he knows that Froome is superior and that he will need to beat him before the Tour. I see little point in Contador getting whipped in the Tour then having fatigue for the Vuelta, where he could still potentially win Giro and Vuelta next season.

I get it. But you know he has to ride the Tour. Both for Saxo and for his own head. I did not really understand what his prep was about this year. We clearly saw it did not bear results, however. It will be interesting to see what he will change next year. For the moral there is nothing like winning, so I agree with you that he need a few victories over Froome to boost his confidence.

I'd say that riding Vuelta has something to do with the Worlds on the home turf.
On the other hand, it's hard to imagine Contador riding Vuelta just to prepare for the Worlds.
However, he did leave open space for a change of the decision when he spoke about the route and its possible difficulty. Or it was maybe a message to organizers...

Guess he was encouraged by Valverde and Purito's Vuelta results who were a lot closer (time wise) than Froome in 2012...

Well duh, winning every race you enter is by definition - not allowing anyone else to beat you.

How will he tackle that Vuelta? Winning will be difficult with a fresh JRod and some Colombians, and a 3/4th place in GC isn't particulary shocking for Conta.
