The time trial of the World Championship of Bergen was EXCELLENT for Alberto.
With the physical form of the final week of the Vuelta a España would have been among the top 4 and with many medal options.
Only 30 Kms. And a perfect final climb for Alberto.
Also with rain.

I never understood why he did not go.

Would Alberto not have done well in today's ITT WC race? He's climbing well and he was fifth in La Vuelta tt, this course has both.

He also did that climb in the TdF TT in the fastest or one of the fastest times, today would have been a golden opportunity for him.

Recall that in the final time of the Tour in the intermediate time in the Cathedral of Marseille .... the best time was Alberto and Kiato.
And finished 5th
A serious error of the Spanish coach does not convince Alberto to participate

When thousands of fans yelling 'un año mas' can't convince Contador, I doubt a national coach could've convinced him to go to some artic hole to ride an ITT.

Would've finished second today, 100% sure. Perfect ending to 2017 and perfect way to bounce back for an epic 2018. Oh and next year would've become World Champion in the RR after a magnificent Giro-Vuelta double. But the robotic nextgen has forced him out of the sport. Truly sad.

No one forces Alberto to do anything. He has proven that over and over again. He is his own man and makes his own decisions.

He seems Very Happy with his decision to retire. And a silver medal means nothing to him, he is a win it all guy. Going out with a Win on the Angliru was the Perfect way to say goodbye.

I literally LOL. Bergen is a very nice place, when it isn't raining :)

With less robotic cycling he would've won this Vuelta hands down. It's sad the robots and watts warriors have killed almost all his greatness. Yeah, he was still great, but with less robotic cycling, I repeat, he would've won at least three times as much, with way less (useless) attacks. Would've been still spectacular.

I saw that, (in CN news shorts). I'm gonna have to go!
My classics-mad friend was wanting to go see Cancellara last year, but I was busy, but this year, so far so good. I'll see if I can drag him along.

You should really go if you have the chance. I got to see him in San Sebastian 2016 and don`t regret it.

It'd be really cool if I can make it, literally the last chance to the guy in race colors. Fingers crossed no unavoidable work shows up. Pity it's not a real race, plus no hills to see any climbing, but it'd be fun anyway. I guess the script will have him winning - definitely somewhere near the front and of course definitely attacking! I think last year Cance launched Beppu for the win.

The only thing that "forced" Alberto out was his body. The reality is that Alberto went 0 for 2 on his primary targets the last two years. He's a great rider, I have no doubts about that. But his past two years showed he wanted to beat Froome either at the tour or Vuelta and he couldn't get the job done.

To beat he needed to singlehandedly beat Team Sky (and all of their numerous copies in the peloton). Alberto waiting tranquilo-style could've podiumed easily, but that's just not Alberto.

Alberto Contador is not a cyclist anymore.

Now, he is a Flamenco singer

¡Olé!
He could be fined for doing it while he drives and posting to the web

Lol he's fine. His eyes are on the road.

His mind clearly isn't. At least he didn't take his hands off the wheel to do some some clapping.

This might have to be renamed as Alberto Cantaor Discussion Thread.

Oh... he's still carrying his bike at the back of his car.
