2/3 second places in tdf and one dubious win  and a 2nd place in Giro... listen dude, 10 world itt titles is legend material

I would say Andy has already reached legend status. He is the Jan Ulrich of this generation. He along with Contador, Cancellara and Boonen are legends.

I personally would take Schleck's GT record over 10 world ITT's. That is perhaps simply a preference for racing styles.
And the World Pursuit Championships, not to mention the 2 U23 Paris-Roubaix titles he already has? All won on the road, not at CAS to boot.

Nobody here knows the comparative work ethics of Andy and Taylor. We are arm chair pundits, second guessing, with no knowledge of their respective preparation records. Also, a fair comparison of motivation would be when Phinney has had a serious fall on the bike and is clearly struggling mentally.
You must have missed the 2012 Giro and Phinney's stage 3 crash. 3 stitches in his ankle and he carried on, all the way to Milan.

To the layman these titles mean nothing.

I watched it of course. Could Phinney have continued through the Giro with a broken pelvis? If so, then yes we have a fair comparison.

You don't consider him a legend of the current generation?

As much as I like Contador his legend status unfortunately looks to be diminishing. The apparent difference in his abilities is staggering.

I consider Fabian and Boonen the only legends of this generation. they will be remembered in 30 years. Don't mean to offend but in 30 years I will have forgotten Andy and Alberto. They're achievements aren't special especially Andy's. Alberto could become a legend if he gets his act together and wins at least 5 more GTs and some classics and worlds but he won't.

It's consistent GT guys who are remembered primarily. Armstrong, Ulrich, Pantani, Indurain, Lemond and further back

Edit - that said I do agree that Andy needs a couple more GTs to cement status (Contador has done enough already)

Fabian will be remembered because he won the first 3 spring Monuments, only rider in the current peloton to do so. And also for being one of the best time trial specialists of the sport.

Contador will be remember because he won all 3 GTs, very select club.

Boonen will be remembered for being the record holder of the Ronde van Vlaanderen, Paris-Roubaix, Gent-Wevelgem, E3 Prijs Vlaanderen, green jersey winner in the Tour and also World Champ on the road.

Ullrich, Pantani, Contador, Boonen, Cancellara, Vino and Bettini are all legends.

Andy is nowhere near them. The only wins he has is 1 monument and then some mountain stages in the Tour.

For me they are the first names that spring to mind when I think about a respective generation of the peloton. Maybe I am just biased towards GT's though

I think you are, yes, i fyou consider Andy's GT palmares better than 10 worlds itt titles

Over exaggeration on my part.

2nd at three consecutive TDF is hugely impressive though
Only a loser like Andy has 2nd places as 'hugely impressive' on their palmares.

Other than Contador please list those with a better GT record than Andy over the past 7 years? Who else can match the consistency?
Consistency in losing? Lots.

Better GT record in the last 7 years? Menchov, Evans and Basso amongst others.

How can I take you seriously when your signature contradicts your legends list?
