That has been my question but I usually get shot down by Airstream and others that he does peak multiple times (Ardennes and July!). According to them the rest of the events he shows up for he couldn't be bothered to waste his precious talents on showing himself since the Tour is his primary focus.

There can be no doubt about it. Any peak can not exist by itself. A peak can be reached only on the basis of a general rider's level. This abstract level is not necessarily confirmed by the results. It depends on every rider individually. Basso or Menchov ride one week races directly not because they cannot do it better. They just solve their own tasks not related to getting a momentary result in these races. So does Andy.

Even Ulrich who used to "peak" for the tour frequently put the hammer down in the tour of switzerland to demonstrate his readiness. It seems like Schleck is looking to "peak" in the 3rd week of tour :p

Jan perfected peaking for the first week of August.

Is it just me, or does it look like Andy has something stuffed underneath his jersey?

From Cyclingnews here

Is it the old "Fränk-has-an-inflated-camelbak-underneath-the-jersey-sure-to-be-banned-by-UCI-soon" scheme of time trialing improvement or something more mundane?
EDIT: Oh, this was already noted here... anyone know if it was filled then?

Being gang tackled and brought to to the ground by a gust of wind is new. I hope he filed charges against the waft of wind?

I guess you've never been there. Have you not ever had the wind take something from your hand?

I have never crashed a TT bike, but have had a few close ones. Bikes have gotten a lot more expensive so many may not have had the pleasure of a good gust.

The side-surface area of today's TT bike's is even more than what I did back in the day. Something new? You're joking?

Bobridge got blown over at the TT nationals this year.... I think that was by a passing truck, but it's not a big difference.

I won't be shocked if andy starts flying up the mountains as he usually does in le tour.
He is the master of peaking.

Lets recap what we've seen today: So far Andy Schleck, Vino, Péraud and Gilbert have been amongst the riders shelled out of the back."

He wanted to try something on Joux-Plane today, he said. Will he attack Vino, Péraud and Gilbert?

He's always bad in the prep races, but this is getting beyond pathetic. What a shame, one of the few riders who could really animate the mountains in this Tour :(

Didnt he just say yesterday that he had quit enough races this year and that he need the miles for the Tour? ouch ouch ouch. Am not a huge Andy fan but would have preffered to see him in top shape in the Tour to spice things up in the mountains.

He might as well skip the Tour and focus on the Vuelta to give us a great show. Sadly he wont dare.

This time he might actually be hurt, because no matter how lazy he is, he needs the race days before the Tour, and this will only hurt his chances. Maybe the crash was worse than we thought.

If so, it's still a lesson about putting all your eggs in one basket.

I think Andy has peaked to early, he already seemed to be in topform in the Dauphine and now he abandons to do some extra training so he has more chance of maintaining his form till the end of the Tour de France.

His abandonment today means he hasn't finished a single World Tour stage race this year so far. He only finished the Tour of Oman and Circuit de Sarthe and three one-day races (Trofeo Palma, LBL (51th), AGR(91th) and FW (81th). A total of 18 race days
