Andy has a long way to go before he is considered a true contender for anything outside of Luxembourg.

IMO, he has gone from young rider with nearly limitless potential in GT's to a guy who has had a lot of bad fortune, and admited difficulty in coping with it all.

Recovering from his injuries has cost him greatly. His gear-shifting mistake cost him greatly a couple years back. His brother's suspension also cost him greatly.

I'd like to see him excel because he seems lke a nice enogh guy and a class act, even when he's blatantly ogling the podium girls.

But, he can't climb with the best - or even the second best. He can't TT with the top tier, either. And, his future team propositions are unclear. He and Frank are going to have a tough time selling themselves as viable team leaders given their past cuple of years.

Is that not kind of the reason for them? I don't agree with it, but why else are young attractive women used if not because they are young and attractive?

WTF I thought Andy was supposed to suck at TT'ing and descending?! Especially in the descent the bit that we saw I was amazed by how confident he rode even though it was wet! mind=blown.

Tomorrow I doubt that he can do something, he already said the descent was "criminal" and that he wouldn't take any risks there.

Solid performance by Schleck (and Monfort) today, but I do wonder what the rush was about. None of them could win the stage and their GC placement isn't really worth bothering about. I'm missing something.....

Well, if he's off the front he doesn't have to worry about descending with other riders around him that could crash and thus can take the descent with less of a risk of crashing. ;)

They had the lead in the team competition and it is their goal.

Very impressed with Andy, probably a team decision for him to push hard in the TT to protect the team classification but I think it shows he rides for the team as well..even if it may cost him in the Alps. It will do wonders for his confidence, passing someone in front of him in a TT...say wut? :p

Andy is more than 10 minutes back from Dan Martin for 10th, will be a tall order, better gun for stage victory or teams classification

I love this quote from him:

“My best time trial was in Austria when I was a junior rider so I’m quite satisfied about today and I’m very motivated for tomorrow. I didn’t expect to do well today, but I started out fast, took a little off the pace in the middle and then full gas again at the end. I was excited to pass Rui Costa in front of me. I never thought that would be possible in my life.”

:D

Really think this thread should be renamed The Andy Schleck Delusion Thread

Hello and welcome (back) to the thread, we appreciate every input we get. Your suggestion is something that you should probably take up with the mods - they are the only ones who can change the name of a thread I think.

However I'd be more than happy to discuss with you about whether or not it is delusional to support Andy Schleck, therefore I think the name "discussion thread" is fitting

Why don't you tell us which riders we are allowed to cheer for and have high hopes in then?

One of the great things about cycling is that despite everything that can go wrong, and despite all the setbacks a rider may suffer; if they are determined, they can still achieve great things and go on great rides in races. The kind of rides we will always remember, like Galibier for example (by far my favorite ride). I believe Andy is capable of doing this.

Even right now Andy is off the front going for the win, just like I've been saying he would do on this stage for ages now. You may call it delusion to cheer for him, but I see it as just enjoying the sport of cycling like it's meant to be enjoyed. :)
