Anne Gripper leaves UCI ... Adios '¡Olé!'

Head of Anti-Doping department returns home to Australia.

Anne Gripper, the head of the International Cycling Union's (UCI) Anti-Doping Department will step down from her role in the next few days.

"I decided I want to be back in Australia with family and friends. It's purely personal reasons," Gripper told Cyclingnews.

Gripper had overseen the creation and first cases of the biological passport, a programme that has taken two years to get off the ground.

However, Gripper acknowledged that the war on doping isn't over and that there were times when she thought the passport could totally collapse.

Francesco Rossi will take over and leave the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). More ... http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/gripper-leaves-uci

 Italian for an Aussie well well ... how quickly times can change :p

Thats quite amazing news - I always thought she was a lady of intergrity and I wondered what it was like to have to work in the UCI.

Good day for Anne - a bad day if you support clean Cycling.

I wonder if it's not all "personal reasons" (i.e. sick of towing the party line).

Terrible news that someone from the IAAF is getting involved, is its history not all too similar to cycling?

More athletes getting busted by federal investigations, police etc than by positive tests?

I really think Anne was the only person working for UCI interested in reestablishing some credibility to the sport & depart from the old corrupt modus operandi -but of course that cannot happen when Pat holds the reigns & accepts "contributions".....best wishes to her

Francesco Rossi?

The sport has no chance with his drug taking past as lead guitarist of Status Quo

Yes, but he got an OBE or something for raising money for charity and any history is forgotten.

Seriously, the job should have gone to Pierre Bordry.

Anne "Tackling Doping in Sport" no more ....

At the same time PADDY was in London as ANNE was fased-out.

Ma quanto mi Ciclismo costa? ...
Shame on these spending retards. If there is one person on this planet that used the doping ghost solely to his own benefit and ego, and at the same time cycling pay and suffer for it, it's them dirty old Pat.

To tie two threads together. What if Anne Gripper's sudden resignation had something to do with wanting to include the blood values of a "certain bike rider from Texas" for further scrutiny, only to be told no by Patty in no uncertain terms.

Sadly not. Her partner died last year and she simply wanted to go back to Australia to be near friends and family. Quite straight forward and understable.

Sadly it will never happen, too much at stake.

Well Gripper said she was coming to Australia and work and start up on various projects, it's everybody else is trying to read between the lines and come up with the conclusion that there was a falling out and she wanted to out Lance. We'll never really know, so speculation is just that, and rather pointless.

It is good that we can count on at least one person to work Lance and doping into every thread on this forum.

No ****, this is the Clinic, our place to discuss such matters such as doping? What did you want us to do, talk about a cycling touring holiday in the Alps?

I just thought it seemed like a coincidence of timing with the two stories. If she was leaving over a dispute with McQuaid what else could it be about other than Wonderboy?

If the bloated bovine Pat McQuaid insists on protecting Armstrong, they'll have to contend with Contador as well.

If he's riding dirty he automatically gets a pass simply because he may know too much and if busted, will certainly rat out Lance and the Hog to have his sentence reduced.

Yes, this is a stretch but kind of plausible as well and a bit of poetic justice if there's any truth to it.

Contador isn't going to pop +, no matter what. First, he's likely under a very covert and prepared program, and probably microdosing at that. And most of all, he's now "made", for the reasons you said. The only way Contador goes down is in some sort of large scandal with hard evidence broken by the police. Same with LA.

I'm almost as jaded as you are. Other than a red handed catch with a needle in the arm, the only way they are going to get either of these guys urine or blood test positive is if they have a late morning "surprise" test on the right day. And we saw what happened last year when that was attempted with the coffee break delay. Even then, if the numbers came out showing obvious doping on any kind of biological passport analysis, they'd only be reported as something that needed further looking into, maybe, as we know these guys are too smart to have any CERA, testosterone or anything like that in their system that is detectable and would be an immediate positive.

Gripper has not showed any integrity since 2007. After that she merely served to add credibility to the UCI's passport scam. That sort of facade has a shelf life. There is only so long you can rest on your laurels, and with Gripper that time has run out.

After being allowed to target Astana and take their top riders down, it must have been tough to spend the next few years beating up some poor schmoes whose annual salaries would not cover the doping programs of the men in black, like being forced to kick domestic kittens after spending a a year hunting tigers.

Don't worry, the 2008 Giro samples will be retested soon

Ok guys, this might be a bit edgy, but here goes. Gripper's life partner passed on and naturally she's upset and in mourning which I completely respect and feel legitimately sorry for her. However, I think this might have been the perfect opportunity for her to jump ship, for well, obvious reasons. The UCI needed someone like her for her scientific expertise - in the media only. I don't think they actually expected her to use the knowledge to actually put cycling on the forefront of interpreting controles and "cleaning" up this sport. I think there might have been some tension on both sides, but both parties benefited from the mutual relationship while it lasted. (In Gripper's case, she probably got paid very well and good on her IMO she's worth it). Just my 2 cents, please feel free to elaborate:rolleyes:

Just throwing this out there, but CERA has a specific molecule added to the drug so that it purposely shows up in tests. Therefore, only complete retards or utterly naive pro's (Ricco, Schumacher, DiLuca) use that stuff.

if you mean a special 'tagged' molecule that identifies cera then your statement above is incorrect. this was clarified conclusively. the true statement would be that cera has a special molecule (methoxy-polyethyleneglycol polymer) added to an active drug (r-epo).

the current cera detection test is a succsess partially due to the extended presence of epo in the circulation afforded by the polymer attached to epo.
Therefore, only complete retards or utterly naive pro's (Ricco, Schumacher, DiLuca) use that stuff.
agree but the cheats are not necessarily irrational when taking a chance. they count on two things:
(i) hope that the drug cleared the system by the time of the test
(ii) hope that the lab testing their sample is not yet certified for a relatively new test.
