at best, you could now claim that wellens has been proven innocent of the charges. but that merely means his hospitalization wasn't directly related to doping and that he wasn't in the possession of any drugs at the time the police searched his house.
his team and fans now shouting that it has been shown that wellens never used doping is understandable, but unfortunately slightly incorrect and naive as well.

at best, you should say your sorry, at worst you should ignore the evidence and keep repeating the train of thought that if anyone is sick, they are a doper, if they are unaccounted for, they are a doper, if they ever came up positive in the past for cold medicine or tainted beef, they are still dopers.

of course he should never be arrested or charged without evidence. and in fact he never was arrested or charged. The press (and its printed accusations) is part of the game as soon as you step on a bike. without press cyclists wouldn't earn a buck. so they have to accept the role of the media and deal also with the downside of it. And cyclists owe it to themselves that the press is rather skeptic and tries to join dots.
Bart has now been vindicated. good for him. and of course, those who publicly accused him owe him an apology.
but for his team to use this as evidence that he never doped is one logical step too far. we don't know if he ever doped. all we know is he probably wasn't hospizalized for it.
I'm a bit pessimisic here. you certainly don't have to join me in that. and your point is very well taken. we should stand by those who ride clean and should also acknowledge that in this occasion many have been way too eager to convict Wellens.

Premise #1 around here: Guilty even if proven innocent. Its only someone's reputation at stake - big deal, right? Reputations are a dime a dozen. No need to get all stressed out about that. Besides, although he walked this time, we'll get him the next time cause that's how we roll around here.

Cobs, your a good man don't ever change. You'd be better served by getting stressed about something positive in your life, like a precariously negative TSB.

The pro peloton does nothing to help fans get over the doping. Nothing except slag the likes of Ricco. Where were the riders comments about riders caught doping? Contador! Fuyu? etc

Pro cycling is guilty until it proves itself innocent. It is the repeat offender. Until people stop blinking and trusting those who doped telling us it is cleaner then it will never be until there is a concerted effort by riders to stop doping and demand that they not be asked to dope.

Go look at the so called clean teams of known dopers, so called ex dopers, doping doctors etc....
