I think they sponsor the Swiss National Federation but that is it for the pro ranks. I think the idea is they are so good they don't need to pay to sponsor a team

Some Pro teams used to replace their Chamois with Assos but I think this has largely ended. Most Chamois, including Assos, are made in 1-2 factories so they can be readily available.

I agree about the other chamois. I'd like to see you support the claim about Assos though.

Sorry, can't support it. I have heard it a few times, maybe it is something Assos invented. Cytech makes most of the higher end Chamois out there.

I do remember a friend told me about when he rode on Postal they actually swapped out the chamois between the Tour and the Veulta because the Pearl stuff sucked. I work for a company that used to sponsor a Pro Tour team and went to plenty of team camps. I remember what the kit the team had was completely different from the swag we would get. I never could figure out what brand it was.

If this a curious request fine but if you are asking posters to give links to every helpful comment they make we might drive ourselves all nuts.

Well like RDV4 says, it is off season after all. :p

http://redkiteprayer.com/?tag=cytech states it. I personally have seen the chamois in an Assos shorts that to me was indistinguishable from the chamois in a Endura Equipe short.

The myth around Assos kit quality is a complete mystery to me. It is nicer, but pricewise, well that's up to an individual to determine.

I buy designer clothes, but not on the bike, other people are welcome to, but in purely material terms it's a rip off.

Thanks for the info. I actually didn't know this. I had always thought Assos made their own chamois. I guess I fall for the marketing stuff once in a while too!

I'm a cynic when it's comes to marketing. Especially cycling marketing! :) And I've had some truly dire Assos kit.

Outdoor brands are particularly bad at this kind of thing. Stating that they work specially to produce this or that fabric when it's all Gore or whatever..

What's surprising for me is that there is so much quality difference in one brand. I have multiple Nalini shorts, and there is one which is my absolute favourite. It has perfect fit and good protection, and is brilliant all around. Never had this success again, although I bought the same Nalini shorts (only other color scheme), same size, same year, etc.

All of my Assos bibs have had terrific longevity, even while being abused over a period of years. Price divided by number of wearings works out very well for Assos.

Their jackets are also very nice.
