I don't know if you've seen the Dauphine.

It appears to me there's just a big gap between stages where riders take the good stuff and go extremely hard, or stages where they don't. The Giro was pretty slow all throughout then on the 2 hardest stages the bang out huge numbers.

The ranges on the predictions are pretty big lol, and I'm pretty sure the predicted W/kg don't match up that well with predicted times.

That was one psychedelic piece of writing, at least if one approaches it from a standpoint where conventional physiological constraints apply.

Either way, it beautifully/grotesquely demonstrates a) how the intent of w/kg calculations has shifted from being a critical yardstick to a badge of honor and casual talking point where higher is better; and b) how easy it now seems to be to toss around figures greatly exceeding not only 6 but also 6,5 on longer efforts. Or in sub-20min efforts, even more than 7w/kg.

The peyragudes gap between benchmark and prediction was especially hilarious, at 1,5w/kg increase.

So yeah, I know they joke might end up on me if they actually bomb 7,5w/kg in the mountain TT, but even after the last couple seasons I doubt it. We'll see.

That sucks. I will go to Ventoux later this year. I always want to do it at a certain multiplier to the winners. Think Luz Ardiden for instance I did at ±1.6 times their time (I am slow) so for Ventoux it would mean I need to do it in 1h25. That does not sound like fun. Think I will need to change my holiday plan. Damnit, I'll either need to stop cycling or properly train. Don't have time for the latter so will need to do the former

Yeah, it's a space filler article for the restday, but it also serves as some pre-emptive justification for what's probably coming. A bit like the Mou the "Phropet" predicitons.

Yeah I agree, I’ll start it and dig up all links when I have time tomorrow. I also believe there’s a lot more to come on this, major institutions like the times, bbc, even figures in parliament who are aware of this story tend to hold grudges when they feel like they’ve been sold down the river. It will only take one or two people with some weight behind them.

A seperate thread might well be a good idea if this story breaks - luckily it's silly season soon, as well as the Tour going on, so the mass media might well get interested (unless they're worried about the possible legal problems). Sir Dave's return could not be timed better!

That's exactly what I've been wondering about Rob, whether his return was planned before or after they were contacted.

Anyway, good to see David enjoying some downtime with Froomey in Mpumalanga in February 2016.

It does remind me of the Superman Lopez doping saga of dodgy doctor, to masseur, to rider.
I would not be surprised if Marcos Maynar Mariño, a Professor at the University of Extremadura, turns up in one form or another in the future, but more likely in regard to current "altitiude training" rather then the Froomey/Sky story.

edit - add June 4 is the earliest I can find about Sir Dave's return, so maybe Sir Jim said, "this is your problem, go fix it".

edit - add2 - There is, or was, a third person involved who had direct contact with Schmidt at Sky (Laptop "specialist" Dr Freeman, or a rider?)

I also sent him now two tests from him in the same laboratory, Dresden, which are correct. With temperature history and a correct working sensor. I marked all, so he can see different.

So this is not just about Rozman at Sky, and the potential one "bad apple" excuse aint gonna wash.
