Armstrong wasn't smart, he just didn't give a **** about any race other than the tour. He told g Thomas the 1 race he regrets not winning was ventoux mtf. Not giro, not vuelta not worlds or liege or Olympics. Just another stage at the tour. Worth more to him than anything else.

He focused on the race that would give him the most fame and money. That's pretty smart. I often wonder why some riders dismiss it so easily, e.g. Wiggins.

I would place Armstrong in the smart doper category. After the Tour he would disappear. He could have easily won multiple world time trial championships. Pre Tour he would race just to test his form.

I agree. He actually pulled it off. He won 7 grand tours and the non-cycling public loved him and trusted him. If he doesn't go full *** and try to come back and dope to another two Tour victories, or if he gives Floyd a spot on the team, we probably don't get any answers or hard evidence until well past the statute of limitations. If ever.

I have a similar train of thought for David Millar.

He's perceived by non-clinicians as the anti-doping crusader, but what would he be doing / saying if he had never been caught?
