Armstrong and Aldo Sassi

LA mentioned on Twitter he is doing training with Aldo Sassi. It is interesting that he would do this when he has trained and promoted Chris Carmichael for most of his career and Carmichael helped prepare him for his comeback.

It is notable that this year that both Ivan Basso and Cadel Evans are having great results. Armstrong has looked particularly bad until now, but in the Tour De Suisse has suddenly found good form right in time for the tour.

Interested in anyones thoughts about why Armstrong would be training with Aldo Sassi and how Aldo Sassi's athletes are doing so well this year.

...that's what he says he's doing.

since he is a confirmed serial liar, i wouldn't be too sure this is the truth. he has also lied often for PR splash effect. coming out of the giro, sassi was the latest "coach" (um...doctor) to be getting PR for training two champions "cleanly" supposedly -- no proof.

i doubt armstrong is using sassi other than for PR.

the man he has always been using remains ferrari.

and while his TT-ing is still mediocre (for a gc candidate) this tour is very lopsided towards mountains. armstrong with his topped up ferrari engine (and a team with better riders working like slaves for him) will be able to suck wheels with the best in the mountains to compete...

all in all, continuing to make a mockery of the sport.

Didn't he just say he was riding in support of Aldo Sassi because Aldo is suffering from cancer?

I don't think there is any kind of relationship.

Hes purely doing the riding for a cancer sufferer thing.. probably at Basso's request/suggestion, nothing more.

But its nice for him to throw a name around that is linked to wanting clean cycling.. makes him look good..

another pr spin by the liestrong crew.

Lance is not training with Also Sassi.

LA mentioned on his 'twitter' he is 'riding' for Sassi as part of his 'I-ride' for cancer - he also mentions it on this video- which is linked through the Radio Shack site and ends up on the Livestrong.com site.

I know some here do not like to visit the Livestrong.com site, so here is a text of the related Sassi piece from the video:
For the i-ride today I am riding for Also Sassi who is an Italian trainer of quite a few cyclists, Michael Rogers, Cadel Evans, Ivan Basso he's been around cycling for a long long time.
A great man, recently diagnosed with giloma am, hanging in there, fighting very hard and I've been in touch with Aldo quite a few times over the past couple of months and he's got a great attitude so.
Everybody keep him in your thoughts and prayers and I'll be doing the same thing. So Aldo this is for you for the next couple of days. Livestrong.

Yeah good one, you are up there with some of the better trolls on the forum!

Fancy that a team leader using his team riders to work for him as they are contracted to do! What a novel idea...it may catch on:rolleyes:

I imagine the vehemently anti-doping Sassi has mixed feelings about Lance 'riding' for him.

But as long as Lance wins next month cancer will be defeated. All those dumb scientist-poindexters; get on a bike if you want to beat cancer. It can't stand the determination and competition, you see.

Vehemently anti doping Sassi? The same Sassi who headed up the Mapei team that went 1-2-3 at P-R and went tits up when evidence of systematic doping came to light? Who was part of the Conconi/Ferrari team that 'prepared' Moser for his world record? Sassi was his trainer and later called the record 'non-physiological' stating that "the ethical perception of doping then was not the perception that we have today. What today is doping, in that period, was science". He was team manager when Garzelli tested positive in the Giro and said "It's not our habit to fire a rider and rehire them a month later. Now it's an incontrovertible positive test, but for an absurd product in insignificant quantities."

I stand corrected. Thank you for updating me on Sassi's history. I didn't realise he was a doping apologist as recently as Garzelli. I guess he has repositioned himself, the cunning old dog, and I fell for it.

It puts a new slant on Evans who has worked with him since Saeco/Mapei in 2001/02.

Thanks for clarifying I must reveal I cannot stand LA but someone told me he had twitted a quite I am training for Aldo Sassi. I didn't look into the articles online in more detail because LA irritates me.

Aldo Sassi is quite interesting as some posts have mentioned he has trained teams with systematic doping and riders who have been caught yet promotes himself as heavily anti doping. I guess LA can get some anti doping and anti cancer PR by associating himself with Also Sassi.

Both Basso and Evans have done pretty well this year and both are being trained by Sassi. Michael Rogers too for that matter although not sure he trains with Sassi anymore

this reminds me of some book. it's about proper breathing technique for cyclists. the dutch docter-author, trying to sell it, tells us about michael boogerd, who was always breathing heavily through his mouth at the climbs. then he points at vino and says: 'that guy is doing it right. he is beathing deeply in a controlled way'. we know know vinokourov was enjoying the advantages of a lot more red blood cells than humanly possible, so that explains his easy breathing, so whatever explanation the author might have, it must be wrong.
now we have sassi who is telling the public he is coaching riders who are getting results thanks to his magic.
trying to sell himself (or his technique) as a master coach because doping makes basso go fast. Not much different from a TV-medium or astrologist. How low can you go?
I can't believe anyone is falling for this...

Does Klodi still have a contract with Freiburg U?

BTW, isn't cancer cured by doping?
