First Vino shows up this week telling the Hog to give him his seat at the table and now the Khazak government is telling both JB and Lance to get lost come September. My guess, and this is only a guess, is that JB and Lance probably said they were leaving if this Vino charactor came back and the Khazak government is giving them that out. Neither is aware of cycling events post TdF anyway.

Hmmm ... I'm not saying you're wrong. But, the photo I saw he looked quiet smug standing next to Lance, a bit of wry smile like I have this all under control.

What I did notice, and more important, that Lance hasn't really lost that much weight. I estimate Contador must be 8-10kg lighter.

They look elated.

Wouldn't it be great if they all just becaome mad at each other and started telling the media about all the drugs etc that the other side has been using...

Maybe if there was a story to tell, they would?

If it were going to be baseless allegations, maybe they wouldn’t?

Just a thought.

they look like their at their grandmother's funeral not the tour de france. But I agree Contador should bolt to caisse or stay with JB it would be dumb to stay at astana.

Does anyone have a link to this breaking news? And LA/JB get the boot after the tour?

See that great big "cyclingnews.com" at the top? Click that and look in the news section.

Clemson huh? Who woulda' thought? :D

Yeah sorry I found the article right after I posted that. Yeah I am a Clemson guy, if I was UNC quality I probably would have gone there, but as you can see I am not.

So let me get this right (which it might not be since the Kazaks seem to be jerks and were trying to force the crew out) but Lance Armstrong gets some American company to pass over $6 million (apparently this company does not want to be named which is weird because I didn't think sponsorship worked liked that but anyway) and then the Kazaks tell him to take a hike after he saved the team so they can bring back their disgraced national hero? Well I think the phrase "only in professional cycling" would be good for this statement.

Sounds like Garmin was close to landing him, and I think if the Herbalife offer is still around that would be his best option. They are a team of domestiques and seem to be pretty functional, unlike some other teams.

I think Lance and JB KNOW where their bread is buttered and will frankly work their collective asses off for Contador during this TdF. Once the Kazah crew pulls their coup d'etat, I suspect Astana will fold because of a lack of riders--I think only the Kazah's and maybe Kloden would be willing to stay under those circumstances.

Clearly know one in the Kazah Cycling Federation knows anything about chess or tact.

Where are the team presentation photos?

The only photos stored under "Tour de France" are course profiles! Grrr

I find it highly unlikely that Contador would ride for Astana once his current contract expires. First, they did not pay him for months. Second, Vino does not strike me as the kind of guy who would support Contador. Third, there is no way in hell the UCI is going to let them keep their ProTour license after this year. Contador is going to Caise, Garmin, perhaps Nike-Livestong if Lance is there as owner and support. My guess is that Contador is as annoyed with his team's sponsor as everyone else.

The only way I would see Contador staying with Astana is if other teams decide he is damaged goods for some reason, or some Khazak mobsters appear at his door threatening to break his knee caps.

Big and not so suprising news, Armstrong and Bruyneel out, with the team to be lead by Contador.. And Vinokourov himself back..

Wonder when we'll see Kasheshkin back as well? And maybe some more of the Spaniards from Puerto, given it's going to be Kazakh and Spanish team?

No way Contador stays with Astana. If he wins, he can probably sign with any team he likes and name his price.

Vino is such a slime wad. Go away.

Interesting stuff. Sounds like Astana is going full court press to try and keep Alberto, saying that he'll be able to pick out the riders to join him. I don't know if I see it happening, though. I'm thinking he's going to want to get out of that situation at this point, but isn't he still under contract for 2010?

Does anyone know if his contract with JB or with the Kazakhs?

Poor Contadope, now he won't have any chance to win the TDF 2009, Bruyneel will now only see Armstrong as a leader, the Spanish would be literally alone in the whole race. Wonder whether they would drop him in the TTT?:D

Kazakhs are strange-why don't tell everything AFTER the Tour, not before?

I think maybe many of us are underestimating those crazy Kazakhs. Perhaps they made this announcement the day before the Tour starts because they WANT the team to tear itself apart in this race. They know that Contador can probably win it regardless and they know with the way the drama has been unfolding that Armstrong and all of the domestiques are not going to be fully subservient to Contador already. An announcement like this gives them a lot of media attention and really plays up the intra-team drama ala LeMond vs. Hinault on La Vie Claire. A lot of eyes will be watching Astana closely and they will most likely win with AC, and then they dump Armstrong and The Hog after the race. Could be a brilliant play by Borat!

It's with the Kazakhs - they are the ones who hold the PT license.

My understanding is that JB owns all the "stuff". The buses and all of the gear that goes along with the the team. How does that stuff get replaced by September?

How many Astanas are on the LA/JB side? Leipheimer and Popovych are obvious, but the rest? Zubeldia and Paulinho are definitely siding with AC..

And Caisse d'Epargne, how openly will they support AC if there really is a divide in Astana? They do have Pereiro, but could he become a domestique extraordinaire if he has a bad day early (kind of like what AC did for Valverde at Dauphiné Libéré)?

As someone who doesn't care much for anyone on Astana I sort of hope that they really don't like each other... but on the other hand, if they do get along and everyone backs up AC 100%, that will be impressive too (but I consider that less likely).

Pressumably, they weren't using carts and oxen at Astana before the fat messiah arrived?
Easy peasy to replace.
De-Hogging is the harder part.

Not sure about who holds Bertie's rights, but no one owns a rider.
It ain't slavery.
If, JB owns these contracts, the wording would include Astana, would it not?
New team would require new contacts.
