I wouldn't be surprised if a prediction game for super-domestiques emerged.

I think Sastre has the tools to be a huge asset, but he seems a little apathetic to the cause. Maybe I'm reading too much into the little I've heard/read, though.

Navarro should effect the race the most, but I think Machado may place the best. Depends on your definition of Best.

what does machado has to do with navarro? navarro is most likely the best domestique for the mountains, but machado is the team leader and will obviously win the 3 GTs in 2 years.

Well, Popovich has been deemed the leader, but that's my point. The "battle" is a little ambiguous; even the specific role of a super-dom is not a universal role

I think the term 'superdomestique' is being misused. A superdomestique would be e.g. Vinokourov at last year's tour. I think mostly this thread is about super domestiqes: really good domestiques.

So: best superdomestique, palmares-wise would be Di Luca for Rodriguez. In terms of effectiveness I reckon probably Sella for Rujano.

Best mountain domestique: Szmyd.

As far as Sastre goes, I can't see him pacing the bunch up the early part of a climb or following attacks for Menchov. It's not how he rides, is it? Only team job I could see him doing is being a tactical threat by being high on GC.

This!
But I think that He is going as a protected rider...

Navarro. He was great at the tour last year, and the onus is on SBS to control the race.

Last year He was in a really good form winning an stage in Dauphine... but this year He has sucked pretty much all the early season... I'm afraid that He will struggle big time in this Giro... but also with Dani you never know...

My picks are going to be
Kiserlovski
and
Duarte...

I can see Fabio putting a killer pace as last man for The Pope in the mountains... dont expect too much from Sastre...
Also I have a feeling that Jackson Rodriguez and Dani Moreno are going to have an amazing Giro... You heard it Here first ;)

jackson no doubt. he's the best he's ever been extremely well prepared for this giro staying in venezuela until late march, like ochoa as well. jackson already showed tremendous potential in his first giro only not winning the white jersey because he had to wait for simoni one stage and lost 17 minutes there

Ultimate superdomestiques recently, Vino for AC, FL for LA in 2004, JU for BJ in 1996. This yr could it be Porte. Only if he can climb mountains well.

How's the intermediate results based on yesterday's аpéritif?

Can you strike off Navarro already? Wasn't Alberto left alone in grands' group?

And Tiralongo was also nowhere to be seen, and caught three minutes.

If you are striking off Navarro then you have to strike off Syzmd. They've finished together in almost every stage. And AC had Gustov with him until the attacks started going. So I'm not sure we know anything about any mountain domestiques yet. Everyone seems to be holding their fire until Etna.

Sly (Sylwester Szmyd) gotta be one of the best domestics ever. He would be my pick. But Navarro will also be among the best.

Yesterday's stage wasnt for Navarro, but he will be there in the high mountains for sure. And no he wasnt alone. Gustov was there with him. But must have been a little concerning that there was noone else there.

Was going to say the same thing

CAS also pulls the best pain face as well Will have to wait till the TDF

The 2 x Sørensen are both being saved for the Tour. Same goes for Larsson. But besides that I agree that Chris is a super domestic. Surprisingly he was most often the last guy for Andrew last year (I had expected Fuglsang to be the last). Also he has aldry been with Bertie longer than Dani on some of the Spanish springs stage races. But yes, we will have to w8 for the Tour.

SBS could have made one really good GT squad, but doing the Giro+Tour double will somewhat strech the team thin in both races.

niemec and nieve. saxo super domestiques fail!

Definitely agree Niemec and Nieve have been the two best domestiques. I don't think Saxo Bank has ever tried to set AC up for a move (like in the Tour). So I don't know how you are saying they've failed.
