As far as taking dope to better perform as Lance in a movie, I must say that doing only that (doping) is unlikely to cause more than a placebo effect to his full performance portraying Lance Armstrong.

I can understand how Ben Foster would be curious to experience what it's like to take epo, steroids, etc. Knowing he was using drugs actually makes me more interested in seeing the movie. Maybe that is why he made the announcement to get publicity?

There are a lot of negative consequences to his announcement though. The biggest problem is that other people, especially young people, could justify trying these dangerous drugs. Now Ben Foster will be karmically implicated for influencing innocent people.

Being supremely fit, winning races, becoming a millionaire must have been an incredible rush, that's why people like myself read/watch movies about Lance and sports stars, to subtly experience their lives.

No kids are going to dope because Ben Foster did.

Oh, that guy. Pretty good actor, actually. I've seen Pandorum, X-men, Lone Survivor. He did a good job.
Shame to waste his talents on a movie about a turd like Lance.
I didn't recognize him until I saw his bio either. ;)

I think having Ben in the lead lends a lot of credibility to this movie as an actual film rather than a non-fictional sports documentary, that has a bunch of obscure actors in it.

I heard that Ben Foster spent considerable time with a noted proctologist to really explore the subtle nuances....

I saw the movie yesterday and it was surprisingly good.
I expected to be bored, but the movie is shot with such an intensity and urgency that it kept me watching, even though I pretty much knew what was going to happen next.
Foster did a great job channelling the narcissistic and ambitious Armstrong.
Of course, any rider or person familiar with cycling will cringe in embarrassment while watching the race scenes, but that is pretty much to be expected. You could drive a small truck between riders in the peloton, and some are wobbly enough to appear drunk. (Ok, that's a slight exaggeration; but let's just they didn't exactly look like Nibali out there.)
Also, Ferrari's character is so over-the-top evil that I initially found it funny; but those are mere quibbles.
Obviously no one here is going to learn something they don't already know, but like I said, it was better than I anticipated.

you may be using this a metaphor and *****, but much to Hitch's chagrin, I am using this to refer to April Macy. And if Christopher was still alive and castigation islamo-fascists, he would love my post.
