Best and Worst National Champs jerseys

I actually find the "horizontal stripes kit, vertical stripes flag" design rather confusing!

Especially back when Chavanel was French Champion... virtual identical kits, same team!

And... here's to hoping Kiribati doesn't get a nat champ... :p

Come on now, the British champion's jersey has been that way for more than 40 years.
It may not look particularly "British", but everybody with a little cycling knowledge knows what it is.

Because those kits are fricking hideous?

Perhaps the British flag is a bit too 'busy' to pull off a Scandinavian-style full-body cross, but I guess they could at least have sleeves with the flag on. I don't see too much of a problem with the jersey, after all the Dutch national champion has a full tricolour jersey so they don't get confused all that much, unless somebody designs a kit incorrectly (like Bole's Slovenian kit that was actually Dutch).

It's nice to see a Movistar champions' kit that actually pays some kind of respect to the national jersey (the same team, in days of yore, presented a more obviously British jersey for Jeremy Hunt. I'll see if I can find it), although I believe this is more because the British have fairly strict rules about their national champions' kit (perhaps because of the aforementioned Hunt kit). It's why I was astounded they were allowed to keep that chronically bad kit they gave Visconti last year, even if it wasn't quite as bad as the Bulgarian Champions' kit that Katyusha gave Pippo Pozzato originally.

Here we go: Jeremy Hunt's jersey at Banesto. Didn't take much googling:

Why isn't something like the team GB kit possible? Would be flipping awesome.

The red white and blue stripes are the traditional british champs kit. i think it looks pretty classy and stands out quite well.

Sky have union jack sleeves now on Geraint Thomas and Wiggo rather than the traditional stripes.

I agree those kits are not that awesome but it was the first thing I thought of. Along with EBH's Norwegian tt kit a few years ago. Just the full jersey with bright red and blue colors

Movistar, you can produce a National champs jersey without mutilating it! Chapeau!

And they got him to ditch the white shorts - hurrah!!

The old Team GB kit is totally minging.

New one much better:

However that is the team kit and not the nat champs jersey - which has a long history of looking the way it does

I was quite surprised they went for the full white jersey; i half expected the british stripes just to be stuck on the movistar jersey. Obviously the british jersey is not to be mucked about with too much and is perhaps the most constant/unchanging in the peloton.

Also, i'm loving the red white and blue stripes on the overshoes! Attention to detail

If they did that, then it would look like the Master's jersey - he will have that at some point no doubt, but not yet

iirc the bcf regulations are quite prescriptive on what national champs jerseys have to look like.

Here it is, rule 8.4.1
http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/zu...orate/2013_Rulebook_05-GENERAL-ROAD-TRACK.pdf
The design of a National Championship jersey for men and women shall be white with 5 cm wide red, white and blue bands around the chest, the red band being uppermost.

How come in some cyclists that are former national champions do not have their colours on the sleeves of their jerseys. Obviously when you are the reigning champion you have your champions jerseys but former champions often have the flag of their country on the arms or the collor. For exaple in Sky Geraint Thomas has the Unior Jack on his sleeve, Purito has the spanish flag, Cav has the world champion colours on his sleeves. Yet in certain teams they dont, Roche had the Irish tricolour on his sleeves in AG2R and not in Saxo, and a few more guys also.
