The Little Prince: Damiano Cunego
I don't know the history of the nick, but it seems fitting.

My favorite was Paulo Bettini aka The Cricket, loved watching him ride. Great rider and all round nice guy.

Fernando Escartín - The Crab, because watching him ride reminded one of the movement of a crab.

Purito is also a good one, not because it's especially good as a nickname, but because it's completely stuck, and it's better than J-Rod at least.

So friggin' true. Good observation.

But I have to differ with you on 'The Cricket', which ought to go here rather than the 'worst nicknames' thread... you can't find them and they never stop when you want them to.

Maybe Pocket Rocket?

I think the tashkent terror is a pretty good nickname for Abu (I have no idea how to spell his name, the sprinter who dominated in the early 90s).

Wow, I forgot about some of those. I vote for a reference sticky thread/post that lists all famous cyclist's nicknames with distinction being made whether they were official (used by cycling commentators) or more of derogatory nature, e.g. Baby Shleck, Bottle.
