Best Riders without a contract for 2012

Just wondering who was left in the Dust after this crazy transfer season....
I know Cobo is an obvious one but are there any great riders to be picked up on the cheap?

Not this transfer season but ones before, but:

David Herrero Llorente hasn't turned a pedal in anger since the 2009 Vuelta; he was in the top 10 of both time trials, 2nd in the stage Boom won, and was up on the podium of País Vasco before crashing out on the penultimate day a couple of years ago. And he's Basque, but has burned his bridges with Euskaltel (a problem when they're short of time triallists). It's been strange that nobody has picked him up since.

Gustavo César Veloso won the Xorret del Catí stage of the Vuelta that year, and the Volta a Catalunya the year before. His star waned a bit in 2010, but he couldn't find a team after Xacobeo collapsed and has been gone from the scene since.

Matt Lloyd has to be one the best. Surprised he hasn't been snapped up with his WT points from last years Giro. Doesn't have the potential of Cobo but still a decent buy - if his head stays clear.

Cameron Wurf. He was a likely starter for Liquigas at the tour until he was injured. Recovered during July until he injured himself again before La vuelta. Not listed in Liquigas' roster for 2012 so it seems he is uncontracted.

I think if the Bentancur thing blows up in Liquigas' face that they very well might try and resign Cameron. At least I hope that's the case, as if someone like Basso rates him then he clearly has to be talented.

Wurf impressed at the 2010 Giro, where he turned in several BIG days on the flats controlling the race for Basso. For those who don't know him, he's a big ex-rower who is a ridiculously strong tow motor in the Adam Hansen/Bert Grabsch/Wim Van Sevenant mold.

Vlad Efimkin doesn't seem to be coming back with Team Type 1, which is odd given that he was originally included in their roster for 2012 but then inexplicably not on the official 23-man roster. Also, after semi-retiring, he was all 'I'm so glad to be back' after coming back. Anyone know anything? He's a solid GC rider.

Also, Marko Kump. I know he had a bad year, and Geox has been a debacle, but still.

Yeah but by all accounts he was turning into a climbing domestique for Basso

I thought it may of been a sensitive topic to talk about so I asked Rupert Guinness (cycling journo) what was happening and he didn't seem to have any idea. He has tried to get in contact with him about it but hasn't had any luck.

wurf isn't a very good rider so I fail to see in any way how he is the best rider without a contract for 2012. but I guess he's australian so there goes any objectivity

says the person who hypes up colombian riders who fail to deliver! You are such a hypocrite.

The guy is a domestiqu who is often seen to be doing a lot of riding on the front for guys like Basso. He was in line to be given a spot in the Liquigas tour team.

Wurf obviously did a terrible job if he was controlling the race for Basso in the 2010 Giro then, since he was riding for Androni Giocattoli.

:eek::eek:

Yeah, thanks for picking me up on that!!!

It was for Scarponi, and Liquigas thought it was impressive enough for a one year contract.

I'll proof read next time :D

It is strange. Wurf has not been riding at the top level for long but he has the makings of a good quality domestique. While not looking like a winner he was praised for his strong teamwork last season by many people. I thought he would have done enough to secure a contract. Wurf should at least find something with a continental team.

Cobo should pick up something but may have to may have to settle for less money than he could have negotiated earlier on. He should have seen the writing on the wall. Wonder if Saxo have the money for him ? I'm sure Contador would be happy to have him.
