Opinions please. Always willing to sacrifice weight, etc. for some assurance that they won't puncture easily.

Most supple are Vittoria, Veloflex, Clement, FMB, Dugast...cotton casing

For durable, Conti Sprinter or Comps, GPrix4000..

Put some Stans in them for small holes...no they won't hurt latex..almost no ammonia and most outgases early on in production.

Do you want BEST or the one that doesn't puncture much? Because the best ride quality/racing tire is not always the most puncture resistant.

For instance, the Veloflex Record is an amazing tubular, but it is lighweight. Whereas, if you are just looking for durable, the cheap Vittoria Rally tire would work. Also, Vittoria has a new Rubino tubular out now that is a good compromise between durability and performance.

Best of both worlds.

My most durable race day tire for the last 20 years has been the Continental Sprinter. In the last few years the old Sprinter tread pattern is now on the Competition. Either would be what you require from a race tire.

I really like Michelin Service corse tubulars.I think they are actually made by Wolber. They are not the lightest but they are really tough and have incredible wet weather grip despite being slicks.

Threading on a racing tire has 0 effect. A bicycle tire is so narrow and the tire pressure is so high, that water can't get trapped under the tire as it can under a car tire (with hydroplaning as a possible result). So there is no need for channels to push away the water.

What he said. Actually the best bicycle tire is the one where most of the rubber touches the road, as in no tread.

Best all around tubular is the Conti Sprinter, IMHO.

I've been using Conti Sprinters for almost 10years. I have only had a couple of flats. They seem to be the most durable value for money tyre on the market. The Sprinter Gatorskin seems to be a good improvement. Haven't had a flat with these yet.

I'm 6'2" and 90kg. I used the Vittoria CX's once and found that my size and weight caused them to pinch flat to easily. Same problem with the Conti Podium though. My Father 71years old 5'7" and 65kg loves the Vittorias.

I like Conti Sprinters as well, but don't let the "Latex is superior" crowd find out you are riding a butyl tubular.
