I didn't find Pro Gold much better (if at all) than White Lightening. Last week I started using T-9 and I'm impressed. I've done 200 miles on the first application, including a 35 mile in the rain, and so far it has held up with no need for another application. Pro Gold never held up for me that well. Even the slightest drizzle would seem to wash it off, just as with WL.

Odorless mineral spirits on the drivetrain and cogs.

Soap and water and light stream rinse.

Do you need to strip your chain to use white lightning?

I did not "strip" my chain the first time I used White Lightning. I did clean it very well though to make sure the old lube was basically absent.

how often you guys clean your chain?

Every time I clean my bike I at least wipe off my chain. When I use Simple Green and clean my bike I will lube my chain with White Lightning. Basically, I ride a lot and clean my bike when I feel the need or just want to. I use my eyes and ears as the judge for my drive train - if it looks dirty I clean it. If I hear something out of wack like squeaking or anything out of the ordinary - I love my bike and feel like we are in harmony together (might sound corny but that's how I feel) - then I at least wipe it down, clean the cogs, clean the rear derailleur, and apply WL.
