Why not just buy nitrates?

There is a article abstract on PubMed that shows the same effect simply by taking the nitrates and/or nitrites directly. The Feds might think you're making a bomb if you buy heaps but luckily you don't need much.

Or possibly you could try eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Yes, if you look at the upper right hand part of the post, it is that little triangle thingie with an exclamation mark in it. Click on that to report a post for any reason and send a message to all the mods.

browsed through the article in J of Applied Physiology and the set-up looks ok (double-blind, randomized, cross over with 10 days wash out). This paper is just the latest work from the Jones group dealing with dietary nitrates/NO effect on vasodilation.

The subjects were reasonably fit runners, the only downside to it is that the subjects were asked not to eat a number of high nitrate rich nutrients prior to and during the protocol. This translates to that people not eating their healthy veggies may increase their performance drinking beet root juice. People already on a nitrate rich diet may not experience the same benefits.

We tried it many years ago at work in the lab but used fit athletes rather than couchers. Did make a difference but best results came after drinking it 1 hour into session// race. The best mix was with celery juice 10% and carrot jjuice 10%.
Very good as a post race drink to cleanse blood and maintain iron stores. Drink it with Pudding de negra on rye bread, sleep at 2000 metres, go to bed by 9 and
pick your parents carefully and you should be fine.
