bike components research

do any of you guys have any links to interesting articles on how bike components are built? mostly aluminum components, frames, brakes, levers, everything :p

it's research for a project that intends to incentive the use of the bike as an alternative to the car by creating a portuguese bike (actually 2 bikes, one normal and one electrical) and to try to build as much of the components in portugal as possible. i thought you guys may know some useful links to help me with the research

The manufacturing of bike parts is not very complicated - all the techniques and machinery are basically the same as used to make:
farming equipment, automobiles, cooking pots & pans, etc.

To make bicycles a good alternative to car requires:
1) Comfort & ability to carry some packages.
2) Safe roads that are good for slow riders. Fast riders on the 'bike paths' would be a problem.
3) Support from local police to enforce laws about both cars & bikes.

The group of potential riders needs to include: your parents, sister, non-athletic friends, etc.
