Boonen, Matty (Goss) or Cav might be more of a problem than a sore tooth for them ...

but thats ok - the jokes will be funnier when Phil crushes everything in the ardennes, Cadel wins the tour and Phil wins Lombardy wearing rainbows :D

Oh yeah I still believe BMC is not in trouble at all even if they totally screw up today.

I am tempted to believe in the toothache and fever story.

Because Gilbert wasn't really all that bad in Qatar and Haut-Var.
In any case the fact that he has a new bike also plays a role just look at 2009.

Gilbert looked in shape though.

Ballan too. Good result from him.

Ballan finished fourth last year so he probably won't think it's a good result and I think he has finished on the podium a few times as well. Gilbert did look good before he crashed so we will never know. GVA also crashed so not a great race for BMC once again. Hopefully Gilbert or Evans can get the frustration out of their system with a win, soon. Unless the God of Thunder beats them to it !

What would it have been like had Hushovd actually participated in the race?

Don't know. Before the start I did not give Gilbert or Hushovd much chance on current form. Sean Kelly also seemed to have doubts about them.

Their are a lot of positives after this race. Now we all know Gilbert has good form and we can expect good performances from him now on. GVA and Ballan also look good both were in the final chasing group. Actually BMC rode a really good race even without Gilbert. Unfortunately Gilbert crashed and GVA crashed on the last corner!!! Might not have been able to catch up with gerrans but could have gotten a good 4th or 5th.

We know that Gilbert has good form because he was in that front group of 70 guys?

If he was in good form he wouldn't have been at the back half of the group and wouldn't have fallen. Gilbert in good form would have been in the first 15 riders at that point.

Gilbert won a stage in Algarve. Strande Bianche, a stage at Tirreno and 9th Overall and then went to get 3rd at MSR. So I'd call that quite a decent start.

The only race Hushvod did something was Tour de Suisse and Tour and got 8th at PR.

Really? Gilbert won a stage in Algarve and Tirreno, and the Montepaschi Strade Bianche. Apart from that, he finished top-10 in the Tirreno GC, and third in Sanremo. This season he hasn't shown a single above-mediocre performance.

Hushovd was pretty crap at this stage last year as well. But then again, the only good race he had that spring was Paris-Roubaix, so being in the same position as last year is hardly comforting.
