Yet another example of why pro riders need to form a union.
There should be a structure in place that not only serves the needs of active riders, but those who have left the sport.
I'm not going to come down on someone who sells/uses drugs. Pretty much everyone uses drugs of some kind, and I hate that people like Bobridge are seen as an outcast. Nothing wrong with using the droogs.
All best to Bobridge.

lol that's a pretty blanket statement. You sure about that? I'm thinking of someone who was run over by a car after he attacked a man (who he didn't know and for no reason) because of....drugs.

Yeah, I'm sure about that.
Drugs should be used in moderation. I do drugs all the time, but I don't run people over or hurt anyone in any way. Key word is moderation. Adults should know what they can and cannot handle. All else is pure bliss.

Also, we're all aware that most riders "manage not to become drug dealers when they retire."
That's not the point I was trying to make.
The point is that pro cyclists do not have a union to protect their interests, both on and off the bike.
Just because Bobridge allegedly sold drugs doesn't mean his colleagues haven't fallen into hard times after being unceremoniously dismissed from their former team.

Well I'm glad it's working out for you. Where I live, it's destroying the lives of individual's, tearing families apart, and causing kids to grow up in very unfortunate situations.

Seems a logical career path after sport if you ask me...............
Just goes to show that these guys waste some of the best years of their lives chasing after a dream that doesn't pay off for most of them. They have nothing to fall back on because the vast majority don't attend university and they have no trade that they were taught other than cycling. Some of them are bound to take the easy way to earn a few bucks...

You'll probably ban me for posting this but I can't see how he wasted years chasing a dream. He did really really well as a cyclist. I wish I had been as successful as him as a sportsman. Can you ride a bike like him? Also many people who go to university end up the same way. If what they say is true that he is a bit of a bad boy one could say that cycling kept him on the straight and narrow.

6 hours training a day ( i think that's what Armstrong said) leaves plenty of time to do a sports science degree if you ask me or other courses.

He aint the 1st rider or last to end up on the wrong side of the tracks.

Soon he will have plenty of time to study..............

Ag2r facilitate all of their riders to attend university as they train.

Thanks, this explains a lot!

Agree completely with your statement that the riders should be forming a union to help in situations like this. I used to be a member of a union that had treatment services for drug addiction and a wide range of other rehab services, all as a part of my union benefit plan. Obviously that's one of the smaller reasons to form a union but it's a great benefit.

Pretty sad, the guy was always a bit of a troublemaker and had problems with alcohol and his mental health, his rheumatoid arthritis didn't help either.
It looked like he had actually changed after becoming a father, but apparently that was not the chase and now he'll probably spend some time in prison instead of being a somewhat decent father for his daughter, I feel sorry for his family.
Indeed. I feel very sad for families (especially childs) of these persons.

We know. It's obvious from your posts.

Get off your high horse Mr. Incognito.
Everyone is their own chemist, and pretty sure you are on something(as I sip my lovely Peet's drip coffee)
Whether it's caffeine, some sort of prescribed pill prescribed by your local legal drug pusher(MD), beer, wine, liquor, you are on something most likely. You just don't view it as a drug for a myriad of reasons.
Or do you live off the land foraging and killing everything you eat?(which would shut me up and put me in awe of your greatness).
You seem very insecure about Delgados honesty and your post ads absolutely nothing to this thread other than to make yourself feel better about you. Hmmm
As we can see with the scandal with USC's dean of Medicine, drugs don't discriminate against anyone, any age, or any color.

Are you done proselytizing?
I was joking as any person paying even the slightest bit of attention would realize. But I'm sure you know that.

I've noticed you often take others' posts in the most aggressive way possible. Why is that? :)
Why you crave conflict? Why do you want so bad to pick a fight with people?

Your 2nd to last sentence is looking very much like you're projecting your self-image on to someone you've never met or talked to before. Hope you can get over it soon mate :)

Ahh so taking a shot at Delgado didn't make you feel better?
If you were "really" joking then apologies in order on my part.
You read all 66 of my posts in 3 minutes? Topic, scope and everything! Impressive!
It'll take me a while to look through your 1000's of posts(it must be like drugs to you).

I'm not buying that.
Even without a degree or a trade, at the very least Bobridge had 15-20 years time to learn bike tech and maintenance from the best in the business if he wanted to.

You can't tell me he couldn't have opened a bike shop in Adelaide or even just put his name on someone else's shop without working much and still make a decent living.

Or become a DS or a coach or whatever, or ask the Australian olympic comittee or cycling federation for a job.

This was a choice by him, and he'll own it.

I took it as a joke and had a laugh reading it just now. But like always on the internet someone had to take it to heart.

Agree with your post spalco. My son is making a living as a pro bike rider (Track) and I have no fears that he'll end up selling drugs for a living when he retires from cycling. Plenty of perfectly legal jobs he can take up later like the things you've listed here.
