Cost of child care too high

Children, it is often said, are our future. Given, renowned comic George Carlin once observed that this sentiment is logically inconsistent, as “our children” will have grown up when the future has arrived and subsequently can't be our future, because they'll just be adults. However, gone are the days of when one parent worked and the other, almost always the mother because that was our sexist past, stayed home to look at the kids. Often enough, both parents work and kids not in school yet have to look at. To that end, the child care industry has evolved and flourished.Child care costs are more than people pay for rent in some areas and are really expensive, according to CNN.

What are they doing? The Child care Aware of America foundation recently published a report that asserts child care expenses increased 2 percent last year. The amount varies widely be region, as some states have an average cost of child care around $3,000 per year, to $15,000 per year in Massachusetts. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune points out that the cost of an infant at a school is generally around $13,579 a year while a preschooler only costs $10,040. This is because infants require more care than toddlers. This can be a trend seen often at child care centers. The age of the child will make a difference.

Most have Hefty installments required

In 2006, the highest cost for child care as a share of income was in New York where the average was $8,530 a year, which was 40.4 percent of a single-parent’s income and 11.5 percent of a two-income family. The highest cost overall was in Massachusetts where it was $9,628 on average. In Alabama, it was cheapest at $3,016, according to USA Today, and Minnesota costs were averaging $8,832 a year, according to the National Association of Child care Resources and Referral Agencies.Infant child care increased a ton in Minnesota, New York and Massachusetts, the three highest states.

According to the NACCRRA, they increased to $13,650, $13,767 and $19,000 for one year of care.In some states, it can cost more to send a kid to daycare than university. In fact, some parents are basically paying to go to work since their income is not enough alone to cover child care, according to the Washington Post.
