Haven't seen a thread yet, so here goes:

Wednesday 13 April: Leuven – Overijse (204.8 km)
Official start: 12.30 pm
Finish: between 17:23 and 17:52

Tomorrow 13/04/2022 semi classic 'de Brabantse Pijl' (UCI 1.Pro ) takes place. Typically the start of the hilly classics, exceptionally the race takes place after Amstel Gold and before Paris Roubaix but that musn't take away any of the fun. If you think of the Brabantse Pijl, you will undoubtedly think of the hilly course around Overijse and Leuven, recently part of the WC in Flanders. However, that route is still relatively new. For decades Alsemberg was the home port of this semi-classic and even earlier the course went to and from Brussels.

Last year Tim Pidcock won, rather suprisingly, a sprint of 3, the others being Van Aert and Trentin.

Last 10 winners of 'de Brabantse Pijl'

2021: Tom Pidcock
2020: Julian Alaphilippe
2019: Mathieu van der Poel
2018: Tim Wellens
2017 Sonny Colbrelli
2016: Petr Vakoč
2015: Ben Hermans
2014: Philippe Gilbert
2013: Peter Sagan
2012: Thomas Voeckler

PARCOUR:

  • Alsemberg
  • Sollenberg
  • Bruine put
  • Eigenbrakelsesteenweg
  • Rue de Nivelles
  • Rue François Dubois (0,9 km at 3,9%)
  • Hertstraat (cobbles and 0,7 km at 3,7% )

Favourites:

The exchange of date between Amstel and Roubaix has had an impact on the starters list. Several riders that were in Tour of Basque are starting in Brabantse Pijl, major names include home-rider Remco Evenepoel and former winner and ruling world champion Julian Alaphilippe. Last year winner Tom Pidcock will undoubly be motived to prolong his victory. He has Amstel Gold winner Michal Kwiatowski by his side. Other outsiders include last year 3rd Mateo Trentin, (former?) wunderkid Marc Hirshi, and runner-up in Amstel Gold Benoit Cosnefroy.

Other 1 star outsiders include: Dylan Teuns, Ethan Hayter, Michael Matthews and, for the sake of it, former winner Philippe Gilbert

Noteworthy: Jumbo Visma decided not to start in this race.

I've a very good idea how this race is going to pan out. The only thing I'm not sure about is if Remco can stay away until the end.

for him to stay away will need them to weaken the Ineos chase before he attacks. In other words, down to only two Ineos riders. If not he will get pulled back and Ala will be needed to finish it off.

they can demo how the Belgian team should have played their cards at the worlds.

The way to win for...
  • Evenepoel: 40 km solo.
  • Alaphilippe: Explosion on the final Moskesstraat.
  • Pidcock: Follow Alaphilippe and beat him in the sprint.
  • Hirschi: Follow Alaf and Pidcock and surprise them with a late attack on the flat.
  • Matthews: Wheelsuck until the sprint.
  • Wellens: Attack between two climbs while the others are marking each other.
  • Campenaerts: Attack on a 58 gear in the descent after the Hertstraat.
  • Gilbert: Pray for a miracle.

A wild De Plus appears. That means Evenepoel won't be the only rider there who knows the exact coordinates of every pebble on the road. Too bad QS didn't bring their second local guy, he would have been great on this course as well.

no Serry either, which is a bit of a pity, as this has always been his best race. No idea if he is local, though?!

But someone who (more or less) is, is de Bondt. He lived in Leuven for four years for his studies, and wants to go for the win today.

Serry isn't from Brabant. Don't know where he lives now though. I think De Plus is from Vilvoorde, Evenepoel from Schepdaal, and Van Wilder from Opwijk.
Edit: De Plus is from Ninove, officially not Brabant anymore, but only a few km further.
