Speaking of lively, does anyone know why did ACF disappear from the forums? I thought with cuddles at the Dauphine he might show up again, but nothing...

He has returned on Velorooms and I think he mentioned he is returning here in a couple of weeks, so..... no need to panic yet.

I don't like Wiggins. Not sure what's to like about him.

Generally, I don't like British riders winning races, because some of the Brits are so smug about it around here.

The Spaniards and Italians for instance are way more cool about it. The Dutch don't win races, but when they do it's quite cute.

Its only that Wiggins is so depressingly underated if say Stannard or Kennaugh or Rowe won then we would be nowhere near as smug but rather be a bit like the Dutch

"Andy is improving every day and not stressed about his results, knowing that when the Dauphiné finishes there is still one full month till the mountains start in the Tour,” he stated in his online blog. “The guys flying now won’t be flying in the Tour in the last week, it’s too hard to hold form for that long.”

Wiggins isn't underrated at all. He has a good chance of winning the Tour. He is widely disliked for his boring riding style and banal personality, but that's not the same as underrated.

+1.

Can you make "Anyone but Wigans" avatars for the TdF, you seem to have computer skills. dimlylitspace used to be responsible for making those but he's not around anymore and even if he were I assume he would likely refuse :D

You may say that and so may many others, yet many of the primary non British posters on here were very doubtful of Wiggin's tour credentials, this may have changes slightly as Wiggins has proven himself undeniably yet many still do not believe he is capable of keeping with even the likes of VDB on the climbs. The bottom line is due to the reasons you stated and the fact they dont believe he can climb well enough he is both underated and disliked. Of course he is not underated in terms of his TT ability as that would be sheer folly, considering what he has proven this year.

And this is what has prompted the response by the British posters who feel they need to defend Wiggins who has always been under constanst criticism due to the fact he has been underated (and disliked).

You can have boring riding style, but banal personality is just mean.

He's an overgrown mod with a silly haircut, but he does show discernable signs of life between the ears, and a sense of humour, which is quite an advance on many cyclists.

With today´s parcours, & the dismal Shleck Bros. performance so far this year,... Conty sitting out,... and BMC lack of depth to support Cadel with the Phillipe and Thor fiasco this year.....And Garmin and Liquigas wasted energies on the GIRO....If SKY can work out the Manx´Man needs for a train to green.....I think Bradley is fit to win it all...........:)

I think you have to look at Wiggins has having the slight edge at this stage. But becoming the favorite could have a negative pyschological effect on himl.

I thought a thread with a poll titled "Who will the the tour this year", with Wiggans leading the poll right now was enough. Apparently not.

Wonder if I should start "Menchov favourite to win D'Tour" thread, some people would definitely go beserk

Or better yet "Andy Schleck is favourite to win D'Tour"

Clearly "Wilco Helderman favorite to win D'Tour!" is next. If he's riding it...
:p

This is an argument which has two sides to it.

Yes, Wiggins had crashed out of the tour so he had worse preparations.

But Wiggins himself said just before the Vuelta that he was feeling great.

This has two sides also. Wiggins can say he felt great, but he still was far from the perfect preparation, and he wasn't able to peak exactly to Vuelta.
What I would like to say is that Froome was almost at 100% last year, Wiggins I think max 95% (it's hard to tell, because every contender was really bad).

You should attach a poll to this

"How many minutes will Wiggins win the Tour by?".
Actually a more accurate poll will be: At which stage Wiggo will fade?

I think you're onto something here...

I agree with both points, and would add that Wiggins as the favorite would have a positive effect on Evans.

Some riders love the hubbub and attention of being in Yellow. And all the responsibilities and demands. Evans is NOT one of those, and I think the studdly near perfect performance from Cadel last year was due in part to him putting the Yellow on for the first time on Paris Eve. No time to choke really.

Would/Will Wiggins choke under the weight of Yellow? Hard to predict. But I hope he would do OK. He has the potential to be entertaining in Yellow.

Looking forward to the Tour. Viva le Tour!
