Am I being obtuse, or is your spelling suspect? Perhaps you mean ending in "e"? Unless you are calling ACF a halibut, hazelnut, hairshirt, hovercraft, herpetologist, harpsichordist or histopathologist?:)

Perhaps he is a Huguenot - being a term arguably extending to a religous zealot and deriving from "the German Eidgenossen, meaning sworn companions or confederates" i.e. a absolutely a person who could support both a strong Aussie leader with weakish domestics and a weakish Aussie domestic in a team with a strong leader. No inconsistency there!

We don't want time bonuses back, they used to ruin Mountain stages

I was thinking primarily for the flat and intermediate stages but even in the higher mountains why not (UCI rules or no)? This would reward the break away/attacker, limit the chance of gifted stages, induce more effort and provide more excitement at the finish etc.

Had Andy got 20 secs bonus on the Galibier no one would have begrudged him that (and who knows things could have been a lot closer than the final margin). On the other hand Cadel would have picked 20 secs at Mûr-de-Bretagne. Either way the race makers would have been rewarded.

I would not be in favor of time bonuses on all MTFs, but having them on selective stages might make a good mix. Or it could be like the TTT. Here today gone tomorrow.

People keep saying that an ITT in the first week could make a decrease in the amount of crashes and stress level in the peloton in the first week - by adding time bonuses on the flat stages you will pretty much be status quo again after a couple of stages..?

As I've said in other threads, I'm a fan of at least 2 long ITT's per Tour(40-60km)and having a prologue too, not a big fan of TTT's so if they only make an appearance every 5th year, I could live with that. As some previous posts have mentioned the 1st ITT should come early, ideally right before the 1st mountain stage and the mountains should start sooner. That way some guys would have to attack in the mountains and not wait for the last 2 MTF's of the Tour before they attack.

Why do you say this? I think they made them considerably more interesting and reduced the likelihood of the kind of truces we've seen in
recent years.

I also think time bonuses make it more likely that the GC contenders will chase the break from further out, making greater gaps likely on the fial climb.

The lack of a 2nd ITT made the climbers more conservative, which has not been good for the race. We saw no action in the first 2 mountain stages, because the climbers (this case: Schlecks) became confident enough that the alps would be enough...

if they put an early 40/50km ITT in the climbers have no choice but to start attacking from the 1st mountain stage

This. Thanks for saving me typing time.

+ 70 km TTT

Hehe, eventhough that used to happen in older times I'm sure Euskaltel wouldnt like that! They'd lose so much time they can instantly forget on GC. :)
