Hey guys,
Hoping any fellow Brits can help... this morning I got hit by a car and although I am ok, my front fork is a write off (can't say what else - I'm at work now so I can't give it a proper inspection). I got her details, but don't know what to do now. I don't drive either, so I haven't actually been in this, or a similar situation.

Thanks in advance

First, you will want to speak to the police to obtain a police reference number that the insurance company can verify. They should then complete the rest of the steps with you if she fully admits liability.

If you have insurance for your bike, contact them after the police and give those details from the police and the details of the woman in the car. Again they should help you in getting your bike fixed and charge her insurance company.

If you have her details and no insurance of your own for your bike, and by that I mean her insurance company's details as well as hers, give them a ring, look on the net for their number, if you don't have it, and say what happened.

If its the other persons fault get a quote for repairs to your bike and send them a bill with a letter demanding imediate payment.
Its there job to claim off their insurance if they cant they pay them selves.

Some people prefer to pay up rather than claim so as not to loose no claims bonus etc.

If you are hurt is any way see a lawyer and start a clain asap. Take photos

Thanks for the responses everyone, very helpful

So I reported it to the police, then today I phoned her to ask for money for a new fork, trousers and so on. I am gonna send a written demand for the cash.
She admits nothing and says she won't pay. This could get ugly.

For those of you who wondered how it happened:

I was travelling in my lane on a service road, which was lined by parking spaces. She was coming in the other direction, and then just pulled into my lane as she tried to enter a parking space on my side. I ploughed straight into to her car, smashing the windscreen and my fork etc. My knee was pretty swollen, but nothing serious.

I was probably doing about 15mph or less as it's a place where you can't go too fast because when it's busy, the drivers are more concerned with parking than with other road users (!).
