can I swap my front tire to the rear ?

due to the miles on my trainer, my Continental GP Attack clincher rear is showing signs of wear. Is it possible to switch it with my front tire as they are the22c vs 24c basically the same ? or are they that distinct front and rear tread patterns ? I don't know if the 22 c on the rear will make that much of a difference ?

I know some forumites will fall off their bikes at reading this but you can switch them.

Of course if you are so uptight and cannot ever envision seeing a flatter (not lacking air but not as round flat) than normal front tire you may not be able to do that on uptightness alone. I'm sure the other camp of never switch a tire (rotate) from front to rear or rear to front will also be falling off their bikes due to reasons such as, a worn front tire is more dangerous/unsafe (like if you have a worn rear tire its perfectly ok  ), the flatness of the now front tire that was on the rear will not allow you to take a corner at mach 1 as well as a perfectly round original front tire, the extra weight the rear tire takes on has now makes is more susceptible to flats/blowouts/failure, ... I'm sure I might of missed a few other taboos but all in all you can switch them.
