I spent almost a whole day yesterday, studying the USADA report and the myriad of affidavits yesterday and I must say, the UCI is made to look not only complicit, but also like a bunch of dimwitted minnions. Just a few Gems that I understood from it:
- The UCI covered up LA's EPO positive at the TdS up, after Il Duce's henchmen had been "in touch with them"
- USPS most of the time seemed to be aware of when the testers were coming. On top of that, at least one affidavit mentions that UCI officials delayed testers, giving USPS riders enough time to re-tune their Hct levels to below 50%
- Jörg Jaksche offered them detailled informations about the doping practices within the professional teams and instead of being taken up on this offer, he was told by McQuaid that he "should have handled that better" (read: "You should have kep your mouth shut"). In search of retaliation the UCI also pushed for a two year ban, instead of the one year ban he had received in exchange for his voluntary cooperation with the Austrian anti-doping officials.
That's just three things I remember and everybody with half a brain can see that the UCI was neck-deep involved and helped enforcing the Omertá. Now the same people, who are mentioned in the report will have to decide what happens to their former Capo.
What will they do? If they let Armstrong take the fall, he will retaliate and speak out about the UCI's complicity, which would be the end of McQuaid and his henchmen. If they have any shred of honour left, they'll accept the consequences and ****** the heck off.
The only way for them not to be taken down, would be to somehow "make it disappear". Is that possible? What do other people think?
