I just learned in a podcast that one of his coaches when he was U15/U17 nicknamed him "Texas Instrument" because during group outings where the youngsters were fighting and doing whatever they wanted, he followed precisely the training zone instructions that had been set with the coach without worrying about the others fighting at the front.

Most riders don’t have forum nicknames—I see no need to create one someone who hasn’t won a GT, monument, WC, etc.? Van der Poel doesn’t have a nickname, just his initials. The best nicknames, when they do exist, come from other riders — e.g., Blobloblo or “Bottle”, or describe something very specific about the rider like “Team Gadret” or Banaito. But I guess it’s a slow week between big races?

I see no reason to create a nickname for a rider who already has a nice and short name.

Alternatively, we could just call him 'Paul', though that could create some confusion...
