Can you get a 49 outer ring for Ultegra 6750 chain set?

Hi,

My son races on restricted gears and he bought a new bike with an Ultegra 6750 compact (50/34) chain set. He races underage and the max gear he is allowed is 49/16. When buying the bike I just saw Ultegra and presumed I could change the outer ring for a 49 one but Ultegra 6750 is different and the normal rings don't fit.

Does anyone know if you can replace the 50 ring with a 49 one?

Thanks

I think the PCD is correct but an email to wiggle to check would be in order as it is listed as a track ring:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ta-130-pcd-shimano-track-outer-chainring-44-49t/

Edit:

think this is a better option:

Thanks for that but will those fit on a Ultegra 6750. It is different to the 6600 I have on my bike. Is it just a case of buying the second one you mentioned and buying bolts?

Below is the Ultegra outer chainring for the 6750. I have e mailed wiggle and am awaiting a reply

Honestly not sure, it looks like it might but have never tried it. If it won't they may be able to suggest something else.

Can you take the chainset off his old bike and use that?

No, he just started racing this year and the old chainset is rubbish. Thanks anyway I will await the answer from Wiggle

Even tho it won't have all the hollow arms and such of the original ring, it's just a 110mm BCD. May look goofy but any 110BCD 49t ring will work fine. You will need more conventional chainring bolts/nuts since the 6700 CR bolts screw in from the back of the ring.

Thanks for that. That is what I was hoping. Appreciate your help

Do the rules allow adjusting the rear deraileur so it won't shift into the highest gear? That would be least expensive option.

They do but he would be at a series disadvantage using a 50/17 (6.2 metres) instead of a 49/16 (6.4 metres) Make a huge difference in a sprint.

I thought shimano road groups were 130?

Chainreaction cycles and Wiggles have confirmed that I need a 110 bcd 49 t chainring but neither have one. I have looked on line but cannot find any. I can find 48 and 50 but not 49

Does anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks

Just use the 48t..you'll be legal and it won't mean much at all.

Couple of options, again double check to be 100% sure it'll fit.

Couldn't see anything listed but based on their stock these guys may be able to help if you give them a ring.

The first two options are for 6 - 9 speeds not 10 so wont fit but thanks anyway.

E mailed the third option, and am awaiting a reply.

Thanks

Specialites TA makes the largest selection of chain rings that I know of, including a 49t 110BCD outer. I use TA rings on 5650 and 6500 series cranks, but have no direct experience with 6750.

They're a bit hard to find; I've purchased from http://www.dotbike.com/p/2143
