I'll be rooting for Gesink at Montréal, to get a little variety instead of always rooting for Fast Phil in these races :p
Plus if Gilbert wants to throw more sahara sand dunes into the eyes of other WCH hopefuls he has to lose somewhere

If anyone manages to drop Gilbert (which could maybe be done in this form), and he ends up in the case group, it's indeed a very real scenario nobody wants to work with him and the attacker ends up winning

yep

he said in a number of interviews that his team is really weak here, so he has no one to chase for him. So unless others are prepared to help chase, he isnt going to get there.

Mind you - if he sticks to Gesink's wheel and lets Rabo do all the work it might well come off for him :p

In any case, the pressure is off him now as he has the points he needed, so will just be out to win for fun this time :D

I'll be rooting for Gesink too, as last year, but last year was a combination of things that made him win. This race doesn't suit him, and much less Gilbert. Main reason the long flat section (5km) before the finish. Watch out for Gerrans (jetlag affected in QC) and Eddie Boss. If it comes down to a bunch sprint, who knows..maybe JJ Rojas?

So Montreal, who will make the final selection?

Is it going to be just the big guns from Quebec... Gilbert, Gesink, Uran, Ciolek (to surprise again), maybe hesjedal (he missed the break but looked good, same with Vandenvelde), Wegmann, Leukemans...

...anybody else likely to be in the mix that missed the break on Friday?
I reckon Rui Costa should make the front group if he rides a little more conservatively. He managed to finish 11th in Quebec despite spending a lot of time on the attack.

Rojas may climb better in top shape which he is not. My guess is that both of them will be long gone in last half of the ultimate circuit

With 3 or 4 laps to go (don't remember exactly) he bridged to Trentin who was solo in the lead and worked with him for a while. Then another group came across and he worked in that group until they were caught by the peloton. He wasn't able to make the final group of 10 which went away on the penultimate lap, but came in best of the rest.

Quebec started around 6.30 CET, so I guess Montreal will be similar.

ty for the info duartista :)

i see he really is taking serious his progression as a hilly classics man. i don't think he will be in contention for liege next year like he said he wanted to be but in few years it wouldn't surprise me. i also hope for a good GdL performance this year from him.

Gilbert against Belgian press: "If this was a race in Europe I would have gone home after achieving my goal in the first one. But now I'm in Canada I might as well race".

Not very motivated, or sandbagging much again?

Eagerly awaiting this race. Quebec was awesome and I'm sure Montreal will be as well.

It will be really easy next year to hate him. He is in BMC anyway.

Hating is such a stupid thing. Ok I understand if people hate Ricco, but hating is so silly. Just like Ryo Hazuki who hates riders because they have boring personalities... hating.. lol such a *facepalm*.

I never disliked BMC until Evans fanboys made it impossible

I still don't dislike BMC, allthough they have been a bit too aggresive on the market this year for my likings. A bit like Man. City.
