Just looking at the parcours for the first stage and I would be surprised if it finishes in a bunch sprint. With the yellow up for grabs, I know people are looking at Gilbert, but do you think Cancellara may fancy a go, a few kms from the finish?

It's a pity for Cancellara that there is no ITT in the first week. He will also have to work for the Schlecks, so the time trial in the final week looks like his main opportunity for a stage win.

Title is rubbish and the question itself could easily have been in any of the other 300 Tour threads.

I think this year Cancellara will be concentrating on the team time trial and the individual time trial. Otherwise it's all about supporting Andy Schleck. Someone like Chavenel or Voeckler could probably try something on that stage. I will be surprised if Gilbert can regain the form he had in the Spring.

Voeckler will attack in the home region of the Vendee. Gilbert has already won a sprint friendly Belgian RR as well. That's indicative of good form

No need to be nasty to Porsuivant who is a new poster obviously finding his/her way around here. Give people a chance. I am not sure Cancellara will have the kick in the finish to win on stage 1.

Can't see past Gilbert for stages 1, 4, 8 and 9.

Stage 9 is highly likely that a break will go and 8 is too hard for Gilbert though I think the stage to Liseuix (St 6) and possibly Stage 5 to Cap Frehel are good for Gilbert.

I think that Cancellara will be saving himself for the TTT, ITT and anyway, the priority will be super-dom duties this year. I can see Voeckler wanting this one, and I think that Gilbert will have a go, maybe Chavanel, but my money's on Gilbert. I think he wants that yellow jersey badly and he'll see this as his best chance to get it.

I can't see Cancellara winning the first stage. I expect that Gilbert's main rivals for the win to be guys like Vinokourov and Cunego.

Thanks mate! daft how touchy people are over a nothing issue. Anyway, I am looking forward to stage 1, because it has a good finish to it. Gilbert could be a good bet.

You'll get used to it..............it's someone else's way of saying welcome ! There will be a mad scramble for Gilbert's wheel which may give someone else a chance.
