I came across this the other day--http://www.bustedcarbon.com/--a bit frightening,as I am building a bike at the moment--alloy frame[Colnago] but I planned an Easton carbon seatpost--
there is a broken one on that site. No problem changing that plan, but I have a Colnago 'Star' fork ,with the carbon steerer! I read somewhere that these have a titanium insert but I cant verify this.---Anyone have any info on the strength and reliability of the all carbon Colnago Fork?

How about flying on a Boeing 787?

What year is that fork? Back in the late 90's early 2000's some Star forks were breaking, but everything was from that era. I had a Colnago Dream back then, but rode a steel Prescia fork for this very reason. Not a problem if your fork is a newer generation.

Thanks for the reply--I have no idea of the vintage of the forks ,I bought them used! they look great, but thats the worry,of course!.
The frame ,incidentally is a Dream Lux.

The Lux came out after mine, I'm thinking more like '03, it'll be fine. The fork problems Colnago had back in the late 90's was few and far between, and I believe it was more epoxy related than structural, like dropouts pulling out. Nothing compared to other companies' forks that were snapping like a tornado in the forest back during the early days of carbon forks.

Thanks--I had some experience years ago,as I worked in composites at the local airline [Boeing technology] and I became the Vitus fixit man for the local bike shop.
Alloy and carbon do not go well together--electrolytic corrosion
But I would like to know what is inside these forks!
