I have a 97 Lemond carbon frame and there is a crack in the paint about 2" that is strait line close to the head tube. could this just be where head tube and the down tube meet? is there danger in riding this frame? any suggestions Thanks

Does the crack run around the circumference of the tube? If so then it will likely be a paint crack only. It happens with painted carbon frames that have internal lugs made of aluminum due to differential expansion under temperature changes. Trek even has a note about it on their web site. However, bring it into a shop and have them take a look at it. If it fails then you will fall hard.

I definitely wouldn't be riding it without getting someone to check it out. Take it to a bike shop. If the frame snaps, you're not going to be having any fun.
