Catlike helmets in the US?

Anyone have a source to get the Catlike Whisper Plus into the States? via Canada, Costa Rica?

When the Conti pros come here to race Cervelo never had to change their helmets. Is it just a matter of the regulatory and safety agencies lagging behind, or is Catlike not pursuing the US market? Can't imagine it's the latter.

Not sure, but I had a guy come into the shop where I used to work looking for Catlike. The shop owner directed him to cooleurostuff.com

I believe they're based in Canada, or have Canadian partners. At any rate, I'm not sure how it worked out for this customer, but you might be able to find something there.

I don't know about whether Catlike meets CPSC testing standards, but effective January 2010 you can no longer race in USCF races with a non-CP (i.e. CEN) helmet. ) (http://www.usacycling.org/forms/USAC_rulebook-Appendices.pdf page 5) I had heard somewhere that Catlike, among other Euro manufacturers, did not want to spend the additional money to get it certified for the US market. They would probably need to have a distributor in place before submitting it to testing to make sure its not a foolish investment (although I think there would be a market for the Catlikes)

Assuming it does not meet CPSC testing, the Conti pros (e.g. Cervelo) will, for the most part, be fine because there is an exception for UCI races in the US such as TOC, Missouri and I think Utah.

I think the rule sucks, I need a new TT helmet now as I had been using a Specialized TT helmet I got off ebay that only met CE standards.

Some discussion of the rule: http://www.fixedgearfever.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7536

Wiggle in the UK sells them and ships to the USA FREE with orders above $78.

I've never bought from them, but I wouldn't hesitate to do so if needed.

That's weird because I checked Wiggle a few months ago and they said no more shipping to the US of Catlike helmets, now they do.

Thanks.

I hope they'll let you buy one .... you may need to complete the order to see if they'll actually ship it or not.

Ok, I figured Wiggle out. Not long ago they just changed the wording of their policy so they could sell this helmet in countries where it's not certified, like in the US.

I might try cooleurostuff.com from Canada, Less shipping pollution, eh. ;)

Thanks for the help!

Catlike is going through the process of approval for sale and use in the US. It should be done later this year and the Helmets will be then readily available.
