I'm sure Cav is very pleased with the award. As I would be. If there is the remotest possibility of you getting one, you can refuse it. But I doubt that would happen. :rolleyes:

I had no idea there was such an award(s), was interested, and so got looking into it. BTW, before I got into it I thought what you said made sense. Well, the great Wiki seems to agree too. Apparently, the award was intended to be used for acts of gallantry, etc.

From 1940, a person could be appointed a Commander, Officer or Member of the Order of the British Empire for gallantry, for acts of bravery (not in the face of the enemy) which were below the level required for the George Medal, with the grade being determined by the same criteria as usual and not by the level of gallantry (and with more junior people instead receiving the British Empire Medal)...
