03-04ish. Pretty sure it was the last steel frame that was raced in the Intl Pro ranks. I remember Bartoli rode one in the Spring during his retirement year with CSC.

Nice. Looks great with the red speedplays. :)
I always thought CSC rode some classy bikes.

They were great frames. Unfortunately, what doesn't sell fails to stay in the line-up, and these were astronomically priced compared to what was around at the time, therefore very few sales and not much of a reason to justify a steel bike in the product line.

I own a cervelo.
Its a good bike. I mean, its fast, very stiff etc and probably well engineered. However, there is a lot of hype around cervelo. I can honestly say it wasnt worth the coin i dropped on it vs a giant or merida for example.
I happen to have worked at a Cervelo dealer.
Their customer service isnt really that bad, but their build quality is.
The frame I bought didnt have an excellent finish quality. Just little things like slightly poorly placed decals or paint cracking near the cable stops were enough to make me unhappy. It also has a lot of problems with the design of the cable stops causing a decent bit of cable friction.
My observations about my S2 would be that it is a decent bike. I can just notice the aerodynamic benefits (just), its stiff and reasonably light. It has some really stupid geometry though. Its not a great descender due to its TT length chain stays and has a really tall head tube (not great for a flexible racer, but probably good for a triathlete).

All in all, ok bikes, but really not what they are hyped up to be, a bit like apple products.

I just got this today, after one ride I can only say it seems great so far. I have looked it over very carefully and the paint seems very good. The ride is better than I expected (not as harsh as I thought it would be).

This is going to be a rather loaded question, in that I know I'll get a range of opinions, but I'd ask that commenters stick to my question.

Again please try to stick to the question..

I'm trying to get information on Cervelo. I test rode one and loved it, but have heard their customer service isn't good and have been told this by a guy who worked in a shop that sold Cervelo and from another guy who owns a shop and who the local rep has tried to get to sell Cervelo.

Any Cervelo owners (past or present) ever have issues with Cervelo themselves?

Thanks

Having read the previous posts, I think experiences with Cervelo customer service is depending on where you are living.

I'm from Belgium and my experiences with CCS are positive. I bought a R3 back in 2006. After 6 months the bracket housing came loose from the frame. 3 weeks later I already had a new frame.

In 2009 I noticed a tiny tear at the bottom of the chain stays : I waited until the end of the season, my dealer sent the frame over to the distributor, 1 month later I received a 2010 R3 frame... Consequently, you'll never hear me complain about Cervélo CS !

Two years later, still happy with the 2010 R3, no problems whatsoever.

It is too bad that the pros are never interviewed regarding what they really think about the bikes they ride. At least I've never seen anything. I would love to read what Dave Z or Christian VDV thinks of Cervelo now having ridden them during their CSC days and as part of Garmin-Cervelo.

They would only say one thing publicly, "It's great!" At the racing for a living end of the sport, the bike you ride is not a high priority. The brands are using it as a showcase. With rare exception, the cycling-related publications won't say a discouraging word ever.

In both cases, economics dictates the message.

Good luck!

The customer service was good indeed, but if two frames had to be reclaimed... their quality control sucked, didn't it?

Possible... Here are some pics that show what exactly was wrong :

So the derailleur cable rubs on the bottom bracket of the frame also? Design flaw maybe?

I can't even figure out what's going on here. How would that happen?

I have no idea ! One day, I noticed this when cleaning the bike. Somehow, the carbon is splintered, I could easily force my fingernail into (!) the frame. At the time, it didn't affect the frame's stiffness, but nevertheless I got a new frame. I expected they'd just repair it !

Close -- it's a Superprodigy. :D I've got one, complete with buffed 7800 cranks and chainrings. It's a great bike.

That's a gorgeous bike.

I'd love to find a frame like that so I could put all my orphan components to good use.

I can't speak for others, but I've had my R3SL for two years now, have had zero problems, and absolutely love it.

Well I finally got my S5 and have enjoyed every minute of riding it. I'm still waiting on the adapters for my red cranks, but I can always sell those and go for something that not only is compatible with BBright, but is also an upgrade from the stock cranks that I'm using now.

The biggest change for me is getting used to the shifting on the red gruppo and figuring out how far out that second "tap" has to be. As well as figure out how to adjust the derailleur so it's "between" the chainrings. I'm loving the compact gearing though.

It would appear based on my daily perusal of the Cervelo forums, that there was some sort of issue with the R3. In fact the LBS I got mine from verified that as well. Furthermore from what I could read online, it appeared that Cervelo stepped up and replaced everyone's frame. That appears to be good customer service.

However, getting my S5 was not easy. First I was told early August, then mid August, then late August, then September. I'd ordered the base model (white frame) and luckily for me my LBS actually had one in-stock, but it was listed as the black frame in their inventory. Apparently Cervelo had some sort of production issue? Maybe demand exceeded their initial expectations on this particular frame?
