A brutal punch from Cummings or was Valverde about to catch him from a very late attack?

Cummings attacked around 800metres to go.

Valverde and Formolo were the next ones to attack. Not sure how fast they responded to Cummings attack though.

Today's stage looks harder on paper than Mirador. But I don't think the last hill is as steep. Another top 3 for Valverde without winning it? He seems to value all podium spots equally. Could be Bauke or Leopold's day. Or even good for sprinters like Rojas and Swift.

Gap reduced to one minute, Sky is working at the front of the peleton as they have only Pate in the break. Movistar has four with Valverde. Coll d'Honor (7.1km, 5.4%) is coming next

Fixed it for you.

Has Valverde ever been successful in this way?
Attacking from the get go, wheeled in, attacks again, solo for more than 20km and wins?

He won Roma Maxima and GP Miguel Indurain in that way. He was also very aggressive in Dwars Door Vlaanderen. In small races, he is on fire.
