IF Bjarne signs him he nullifies the Frank/Andy combo at team deluxe in one move, like him or hate him he'd be a reasonable signing for Team SBS

somehow i don't see berto being happy with rasmussen the teammate.

the rumour has it that berto (not vino) objected kash's signing by astana and guess what..he never was signed despite being the 2nd most famous kazakh.

Err what has kazakhs and Vino to do with Rasmussen maybe joining SBS? :confused:

I can understand Bjarnes reluctance in signing Rasmussen, he still does carry a lot of bad vibe with him. But he could be valuable help if Berto wants to do Tour/Vuelta-double, another domestique mountaingoat in the Vuelta would do the team good. Having Rasmussen at the TdF, not so much. But if they can work out a deal with Rasmussen doing some smaller races where he can run his own chances (maybe Dauphine?) and then do domestic duties in the Vuelta, I think he could be a team asset.

i don’t have a problem with ras being back or riis signing him. he did his time and should be welcomed back. all i said was that contador having some bad experience with conspiring teammates could be doubly sensitive to the thought of a teammate like ras.

the example with kash was just to underscore the point - that berto can be firm and adamant in private despite his public statements. the example is based on a little known fact contrary to what many believed att that vono-kash conflict prevented kash’s hiring by astana. in fact, the former kfc president said in one interview that it was berto who vehemently opposed kash’s hiring b/c kash is an unreliable teammate.

i can see the same reaction from berto regarding ras but obviously riis is his own man with wide options.

Ah I understand you now. Ofcourse Berto has a say in who to hire for domestic duties in GT's, and if he doesn't want to be near Rasmussen, then I guess it's tough titty for the chicken ;)

Has Rassmussen shown anything even vaguely resembling the form he had prior to his suspension? I ask because in my limited following of his results since his return I can't recall him climbing away from anyway as one would expect of someone like himself, that was once considered an elite climber.

He seemed to be on his way to winning the Vuelta a Chihuahua, immediately after his return, but IIRC he missed a crucial break and lost the lead, or something like that. He also did ok in the Tour de San Luis this year. He certainly seemed to be climbing at a decent level again, maybe not a Tour winner's level, but I think he could still be a more than adequate mountain domestique. I don't really see it happening, but I think he could do it.

He has had mononucleosis for the past few months, but he did pretty good in south america/mexico just after his comeback. If it wasn't for Rasmussens race results Denmark would have 3 and not 6 riders at the worlds this year, so he must have done something decent :)

yes he did in mexico last year and san luis earlier this year, but he got pfeiffer after that

Ah - the irony! I clearly remember how the cycling union very publicly denounced him and said there were absolutely no place for him in a worlds squad. On the other hand I have not heard them bemoan the extra three places he's responsible for... Isn't there a bit of controversy around the head of the union in general? He's not the most popular guy as I hear it...

I would really like to see Rasmussen come back. If Basso & Vino are allowed back then the Chicken deserves another chance.
I agree with the article, I can't see him replacing AC as team captian for Riis but he can definently have a strong support role and possibly get a couple stages. Basically the same as Vino this year. AC was the head of Astana and Vino supported him, yet at the same time Vino got himself some glory along the way.

Fairly common, although not so much in cycling. Very common in F1, loads of riders only get rides because they bring millions in sponsorship with them.

So, according to velonation, the Chicken won't join the team.

It's sad that Rasmussen doesn't get another chance when many of the old dopers are back in the peloton. How did he get himself blacklisted? It isn't that he broke the omerta, so it has to be something else. At first I thought the way it brought the focus on doping during the TdF, just as with the Landis case. But now, we have a counterexample with Contador. So it can't be that.
