Pretty much. He has no choice. Bardet and Martin will surely try something.

I think we can all agree that Sky is going to go on the offensive. I love Thomas, but he isn't their #1 option.

I have a feeling that Movistar will target the short stage but if they try on the next stage and nothing happens maybe they will just ride for their GC position on the next stage which make little sense as they will lose in the TT anyway. Either way it's a risk. Ride an even worse TT or just forget the TT and go all out on the mountains. As an obvious break stage there will be pressure early for the GC riders, probably not what Thomas wants on such a long stage. If Froome tries something on that descent (and it would make sense for him to) I think at the very least Dumoulin will be ready for it and I would expect others to be ready for it as well.
I think Martin attacking is a given. I would expect Steven K to go on the attack if nothing else than to help Roglic. I agree Landa will attack if he can. He's the type that is willing to go on the attack. Bardet should. If Landa can attack I would almost expect Valverde and one more of their teammates to go out in the early break. Quintana, well how many years have we been waiting for him to attack? I can't even promise he'll pay enough attention if Froome or someone else attacks on the descent to actually follow.

As some point Landa has to say screw it, and just go all in with an insane move from far out if he wants to win. If nothing else, just try.

I agree. I think the only way he doesn't try it is if his back isn't getting better.

Re: Landa. I think Sky can afford to let him go if he attacks because with the ITT still to come they should be less worried about him. With a sore back it might also be difficult for Landa to hold a good time-trial position on the bike.

I been through this in boot camp. Not fun at all and takes hours to completely get over it. more than just the eyes are irritated. Nose, throat, airway all a mess.

This could have been a really bad year. But he keeps Vuelta and somehow won Giro, so overall even without Tour it's been huge year.
