The qualities he would need to win worlds would be being punchy and explosive rider and good on short but steep hills. We haven't really seen these qualities as of yet. Granted that if there is one rider that could suddenly do something they have never been able to do before, it would be Froome. But I don't expect him to be anywhere at worlds, same as with LBL earlier this year.

I really like the word "suddenly" in cycling :)

The man has an outstanding individual engine. He sprinted on PdBF and Cabarga as though it was flat. And you are saying that he's not very good just base on the fact he did badly at Tirreno and rode LBL in a training non-ftw mode? I assure you Froome's classics success is a matter of the nearest future.

There is a distinct difference between winning a MTF in GT's and being able to win or do well in a hilly one day race. His success in classics may be only a matter of time, but I have my doubts that it will be, if ever, this season.

Tirreno and LBL are just the biggest examples of his lack of ability to do well in hilly one days. I'll wait until he performs in a big hilly one day race before I consider him a definite contender for them.

Plus in worlds Froome will no doubt face much harder competition and much more attacking and unpredictable racing then he did on PdBF and cabarga. If the GB team uses Sky tactics, then this type of racing will play to their disadvantage.

He did win the stage in Oman with Contador and Purito though, out sprinting them both.

I think in the T-A stage he was adversly effected by the cold though.

We will see how he does, though someone like G may be better suited for this course.

When has Thomas ever shown anything on hills? That's crazy talk, not to mention the fact that he's recovering from a fractured pelvis...

As far as LBL goes, I think he was working for Henao

I didn't see him do any work for Henao at LBL. He simply wasn't able to follow the best in the explosive finale. The same in the Tirreno stage. Those are the best two reference points this season that we have for Froome's likely performance at the worlds. Therefore the most likely outcome is that Froome won't be a factor. He could surprise of course. God knows he's done that enough times already now.

He surprised once, Vuelta 2011, after that it's been more or less as you'd expect.

no chance for Froome in the worlds. I dont even think he'll be up for it. its 100% tour de france with Froome

What are Froome's/GB's plans for worlds? Stannard, Thomas, Dowsett, Froome, Wiggins, Kennaugh. Looks like a load of good domestiques.

Wasn't picking a team, but noting options and how none of them seem a vague chance of winning. You throw an actual one day rider in there and it looks superb.
Maybe if they ride this like copenhagen, Froome could win it.

I think that GB have to be a bit more cute than riding like Copenhagen, try and get people into breaks should be the way to do it, possibly Kennaugh, I think he could do well.

As far as the GB team.

I would support Froome with Wiggo, Thomas. Kennaugh plus 4 from Cummings, JTL, Stannard, Millar, Dowsett, Rowe and Edmunsson.

I am asuming Wiggo and Dowsett will be doing the TT

None of them have a vague chance of finishing in the top 20 yet alone winning.

It's also ludicrous to think that they would be strong enough to ride this worlds course like they did in Copenhagen. You could have Ferrari, Fuentes and Leinders all helping with preparation and they still wouldn't be able to do it.

Fvck me, I forgot the :p. My apologies. Maybe I figured that it was so ludicrous would make it obvious, but i guess not.

Well maybe if your posts and comments were consistently sensible I would have known what you meant. For instance suggesting that the GB riders would make ''a load of good domestiques'' on this course is also ludicrous. They wouldn't.

Wiggins will not ride the road race.Cummings will be in the team.He is a very useful domestique in classics and probably he will ride the Vuelta.Stannard and Millar are very good domestiques.

Oh I think he'll be up for it. He's spending a couple of weeks in the US after Colorado on a training camp. He also took LBL seriously earlier this season but simply wasn't good enough and simply isn't suited to that type of course.

I think to be described as a very good domestique you need to at least still be with the main peloton with 50km to go on this worlds course. None of those three riders will be. If you want to see what very good domestiques look like then look at the Spanish and Italian domestiques.

I shall refrain from using satire in any form in my posts from now on. I consider myself suitably chastened.
