interesting article

“He’s getting me bottles and keeping me at the front and I’m thinking why is Chris Froome dropping back to the car to get me bottles? It just seems kinda stupid.”

Sky’s Danny Pate has ridden for several champions in his 15 years as a pro. Here’s his insider take on the Tour de France winner.

On character

One of the biggest compliments I can give Chris is after winning the Tour, he hasn’t changed a bit. He was a great guy before and a great guy now, personality-wise. I’ve seen people get a big head and think they’re something different and that you should treat them differently. Chris hasn’t at all. It’s a really quality thing about him

"Freakish Froome

....

He has a maximum heart-rate of just 165 bpm - far lower than most inactive men, let alone the 200 bpm of many elite cyclists."

Anyone heard about this before? It was new on me...

Lol imagine that acceleration on Ventoux with a heart rate of 165 bpm.

Excellent article, thanks for posting, my friend.

Regarding the mention of heart-rate: it takes
me back to 1969 sitting in class very, very
still and trying to appear attentive to the
instructor but actually watching the second
hand of the clock on the wall directly behind
his head with a finger placed on my wrist
measuring my resting pulse-rate. If it was at
33-34 bpm I believed I had the proper balance
between training and recovery and could do
my workout after classes as planned.

I agree it's disgusting

How so ?

So a country can't adore their rider now... ? Preety sure Marca had plenty Contador articles when he was at his best //

It's so funny you are so biased in favour of everything Contador ( pictures, articles) but hate same things to Froome..

No, but HR max is not really any indicator of anything in terms of athletic performance.

Its just a number.

I hate nationalism. The idea that a person is a god because of their nationality. Blegh.

Chapeau, Andy Murray, for winning this award and winning Wimbledon :)
I agree, my friend. There were a number of fantastic athletes
nominated this year, as there are every year, from a number of
sports. Cyclists Hoy, Cavendish and Wiggins have all won it in
recent years, but this year Mr. Murray was the deserving winner.

In 1954, Sir Roger Bannister was the first to achieve the
four minute mile and also won the Miracle Mile in Vancouver
at the Empire Games, yet he was beaten out for this award
by Sir Christopher Chataway.

I would imagine that the Froome Dog Millionaire does not feel
slighted, nor should he, that Mr. Murray won this coveted award.
