A ridiculous length to go to. Sure impressive that he fought through it and all that. But that doesn't mean every rider has to copy his example.

If you crashed in a race and were in constant pain would you just stick it out and keep racing? I'm betting you would exit the race to focus on healing, I know I would. Choosing not to ride with an injury doesn't make any rider any less of a champion.

How is what YOU or I would do even remotely relevant here? We're talking about Tour de France contenders who have built their entire seasons around this race. We're not talking about parking lot crits.

I agree, not all riders will go to Hamilton's length. But, there is a difference between those who fight through the pain and those who pack it in.

There is also a difference between those who foolishly carry on and suffer injuries that potentially rules them out for the rest of the season, and those that know they are hurt so take a step back to let their body heal and then have a good chance at winning the Vuelta.

If what you or I do is not relevant here then is what you or I think relevant? All that matters is what Froome went thinks, if he comes back and wins the Vuelta instead of damaging his body more then he chose the right option. If he does not then the season is a failure but he can start next year with a clean slate.

If he has a damaged wrist it's not such much the pain, it's possibly that he has no grip strength. I fractured my wrist years ago in a cycle crash, I lost all grip strength immediately, and only recovered about half of it eight weeks later when the bone had knitted. I was informed by the medical staff that it would take about two years to get back 90% of my original grip strength. Freddy Maertens fractured his wrist in the Giro, had to abandon the following day because he couldn't grip the bars, came back to competition too soon, and then uncured a back problem due to not being able to grip the bars properly, and his career wound down from there.

Basso might have a different opinion about that after last year ;)

Agree with you though. Vuelta should suit Froome, and if it lines up an epic battle with Quintana then we could be in for a great show.

I know you Skybots have zero knowledge of cycling before 2011, but you may have heard of Tyler Hamilton racing to a top 5 finish with a broken shoulder and hurting so badly that he had his teeth capped after the race due to grinding them.

So i watch cycling from 1997 and i like Froome, that make me a Skybot and also a person with zero knowledge of cycling, nice for you to remind me that. And people tolerance of pain is different, nobody really knows how bad is Froome injured, maybe he wasn't even completely recovered after Dauphine crash. And these example Frank VDB,Tyler Hamilton don't necessary mean that all the people should follow them,it's a sport not a ****ing war.

Nope. There are champions and there are frauds. Froome has ensconced himself in the latter category.

This doesn't work this way,Froome is a champion,Armstrong was a champion,Ullrich,Pantani,Contador,Wiggins,Cadel,Sastre,Heras,Menchov etc.too they all the same, the hate against one of them doesn't make them less champions than the others.

I agree. Frank VDB is not a good example, he possibly stuffed up the Verona Worlds for the Belgian team by not levelling with Museuuw and Van Petegem and telling them he couldn't pull on the bars. They were furious at having to work for someone who they said later was a `lame duck'.

Which probably means he knew he was pretty much done on Tuesday evening. I'm surprised he even started on Wednesday.

Probably no grip strength at all on the left hand, and limited on the right, and he would have known this on Tuesday.

Strange that he still started the next day and risked even more crashes.

Could have been to ride to a certain point before retiring. Also I'm generalising there are all sorts of fractured wrist, and I guess some are less game ending than others. In my case I didn't need an x-ray to know what I'd done, and I'd lost all grip strength which, according to A&E, was normal for that type of fracture.

Perhaps he thought he could ride with just the injury to the left wrist but aggrevated it with the crashes on Wednesday and then injured his right hand as well

<Sarcasm font> Froome's mentality is so weak, why couldn't he just make his bones heal by sheer force of will and soldier on like a true champion.

Like Hamilton did with a broken collarbone

I think no-one here applauds the way he left the race, even his opponents on here wanted him beaten by a rival and not by asphalt...

Collarbone and wrist are two vastly different injuries. Apples and Oranges. Also, did Hamilton have to ride cobbles that year?

First, Froome was pilloried for quitting without any 'breaks' and once the breaks were announced, he was pilloried for not carrying on despite his injuries. He was in a no win situation.

I categorized this sarcasm as beeing with a wink in the eye and replyed with a wink in the eye..
The post was meant to be dead serious?
If so i would say it's hard to judge who/what specifically you are throwing at.. Just throwing it out there has generalising implications?

To your second point I don't see it has anything to do with what i wrote?

those guys of course wanted to see a femur exploding and with a little fortune, some knee caps too

terrible injury.it sucks because i wanted so bad to see him at least in the vuelta.
there will be always a "what if froomey didn't crash" for me after this tour.
wish him a speedy recovery
