If it was a provincial bakery sponsoring his team because they just love cycling then it would be sad. Him conning some narcissistic billionaire out of 25 million whilst riding around in the gruppetto saying the sensations are returning for the last 5 years is just hilarious, if anything the joke is even funnier now than it was in 2021. I can't bring myself to be feel opprobrium, I simply don't give anywhere near enough of a *** for that.

I struggle to believe this thread is still going. It ceased to be funny years ago
I think most things are posted in jest, trying to inject some fun in subjects that can't be.
So to be serious, his team couldn't possibly look at overall squad and pick Froome for anything further. In good faith and clear heart pick Chris for anything, use up a spot and opportunity for a deserving rider, which Froome is not,
let him do some Africa or China, Taiwanese events get some fanfare farewell stuff..they can't be serious about registration in real races, that count.

May be some contractual stipulations for WT riders to ride an x amount of WT races

In the US we have some Hollywood humor stuff, were an actor or celebrity gets installed in a game for moment of levity, all the players and fans know it's for fun, just a joke..

Do you mean compete without any training? Seems difficult, though maybe the gruppetto isn't that hard for a natural WT level climber and he adapts to the volume very quickly.

If he trained for it and came back I see no reason why he couldn't at least be a mid level climbing domestique.
I mean take Alberto, right now as-is, throw him in the peloton on a climbing stage, and see how he does versus Froome specifically. I doubt Contador would finish too close to him, but who knows. He looks like he's kept up his fitness pretty well. Froome seems to be a shell of his former self. I get the polarization he creates, but it's his choice to take the payday in exchange for tarnishing his legacy I guess. He still won all those races, maybe he wants to ensure he has a more certain financial future. I don't think these guys are as well off as many think. I'm sure many here would do the same if in his shoes.

A counter-example would be Bardet who had a different sort of send-off last week when the peloton did a sort of guard of honor for him before his final stage in the Dauphiné. He's also much younger than Froome and he retired because he could no longer win.

So whilst it's difficult to condemn Froome for his greed (who knows, maybe Froomey is an anti-hero or something for taking Adams' money), he's definitely not helped his image - at all.

He's a long way from guys like Indurain who stepped off the bike because his moment had come. And Froome was no Valverde either, i.e. it was abundantly clear he was cooked 5 years ago and wouldn't come close to winning anything (despite praise for his Alpe state in the 2022 TdF, he was still nowhere near winning that day).
