A counter-example would be Bardet who had a different sort of send-off last week when the peloton did a sort of guard of honor for him before his final stage in the Dauphiné. He's also much younger than Froome and he retired because he could no longer win.

So whilst it's difficult to condemn Froome for his greed (who knows, maybe Froomey is an anti-hero or something for taking Adams' money), he's definitely not helped his image - at all.

He's a long way from guys like Indurain who stepped off the bike because his moment had come. And Froome was no Valverde either, i.e. it was abundantly clear he was cooked 5 years ago and wouldn't come close to winning anything (despite praise for his Alpe state in the 2022 TdF, he was still nowhere near winning that day).

If I was Froome, I'd be doing exactly what's he doing now - getting well paid for doing what I enjoy doing. If I'd already won 4 Tours, would I care about my image or legacy? Would furthering either make me happier? Bottom line - cycling legend, getting paid well, enjoying his life.

In early February we launched a challenge to TCS fans, when we asked what they thought; is Chris Froome returning or not on the Sibiu Tour?
The winners prize was a yellow TCS shirt signed by Chris.
Well, those who bet on his return are betting on the winning card: Chris FROOME returns to Sibiu this year, we'll see him again in the Grand Square of Sibiu on Wednesday, July 2nd at 20:30 at the Presentation of the Teams.
