(There's also a great image from the 1985 Tour of Hinault peeing off a bridge while wearing the yellow jersey and his trademark highway-cop Ray-Bans -- and glaring over his shoulder at the cameraman, whom I suspect was never heard from again.

I can't find it online. Can anybody else?)

HEY!

Why do you idiots need to ruin every single thread on this forum?

This is a great thread of PHOTOGRAPHS not stupid bickering about your personal prejudices.

Take it outside and let us enjoy what we came here for!

You are correct. I have already gone back and deleted the post in question.

So, now you can go back and delete all your own posts that didn't have photos. :D

No one picked the 'ravine' pics yet? Like Bruyneel, who started his climb to the top right there and then:

Caption: In the 1996 Tour de France, Belgian Johan Bruyneel missed a curve when descending a hill in stage 7 and fell 40 feet down a ravine.

Or Wim van Est:

And now that I'm hogging the entire thread...

Some classic American photos:

Bob Cook, about to crack Jock Boyer up Mt. Evans in 1979:

Roger Marquis leading the group at the Nevada City Classic in 1984:

The Coors' Classic. Still the best race ever held on North American soil. Some rich person and the State of Colorado need to get together with Coors' and bring this race back:

Kevin Costner even won a stage there!

It should have had two more stages to get from Mt Evans to Grand Junction...

Wow... a transfer day to the coast and suddenly, the Coors Classic and the ToC becomes a two week tour.:D

Who knows, maybe begin with a ToGeorgia, a ToMissouri, a ToNewEngland, a ToPennsylvania, etc. and voila, a three week grand tour.

Personally, I'd love to see the pro-peloton slogging over several +2800m peaks... on the same stage.

_____

My Edit: I am partial to my home, but the thought of having the second week of a three week grand tour in Arizona, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, or New Mexico (If you are really evil, Nevada) makes me both strong and wilting between the knees.
