Male Cyclo-crosser - Niels Albert
Female Cyclo-crosser - Couldn't say
Male Mountain Biker - Steve Peat
Female Mountain Biker - Definitely couldn't say
Product - Anything cool and Italian that came out this year.
Team Bike - Cervelo Test Team.
Most Improved Rider - Could say Gilbert, could say Haussler and both deserve it. But Hoogerland has to win.
Stage Race - The Giro, wonderful race every year.
One Day Race - The WC. Watching Cancellara blow the race to bits with the crowds screaming at him was pretty immense. And Evans attacking to win was a nice FU to the spanish who always get the better of him.
Male Track Rider - Geraint Thomas
Female Track Rider - Victoria Pendleton, cause she's the fittest and the fastest.
Male Road Rider - Mark Cavendish. Easy to overlook when he wins so often, but he barely put a foot wrong all year.
Female Road Rider - Ina Yoko Teutenberg. The female Cavendish this year.
Best Moment - For me, Cavendish winning MSR. Somewhat dulled now because it's so easy for him. Also Contador's complete destruction of Armstrong at the tour after all of Lance's big talking to the press. Won with maturity and no small amount of panache.
Legend of Cycling - Frank Vandenbroucke, RIP
Rider of the Year - Mark Cavendish I guess.

Guys,

It's been interesting to see some of your choices and I'd like to point out the official Cyclingnews.com reader poll for 2010 is now open. You can vote here:
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/now-online-the-2009-cyclingnews-reader-poll

While you're all welcome to continue sharing your picks here, I'd strongly recommending entering the actual poll. For the first time Cyclingnews in conjunction with FRF Sports is giving away a complete Argon 18 bicycle with FFWD wheels. What's the catch you say? Well, the only catch is that in addition to making your selections you must respond to the question (In 25 words or less why was 2009 the best year of professional cycling this decade?) in order to be eligible for the prize.

Good luck!

Cheers

Are we ineligible if we don't believe that 2009 was the best year for pro cycling of the decade?

Dunno is getting a lot of votes; who is he?

Andre

BTW, why is a guy with no major victories and one podium even available to be selected for both best road rider, and rider of the year when guys like Edvald Boasson Hagen, Thor Hushovd or Franco Pellizotti (guys with victories) aren't?

I know that EVERYONE MUST LOVE LANCE and all that sh!t, but a third in Le Tour, really? That makes you eligible to become the Rider of the Year?

i think the (almost) complete lack of women and track cyclists on rider of the year (ok, there are one or two) is BS as well.. the rider of the year is totally male, road, biased, its silly

I agree with you in principle, but I guess it's due to the fact that no aspect of cycling has such a broad following as the male road circuit, and it's the only area in which the general sports media has any interest whatsoever.

I just gave the answer to the question, "why wasn't 2009 the best year for pro-cycling of the decade?"

I guess the question is there so they can make sure the only forum user who can get the prize is Sprocket. I wonder if he will type "Lance" in 25 times or just use "ctrl V"...

It seemed to me that 2009 was a pretty good year compared to some of the more scandal-plagued years earlier in the decade. What year(s) do you think was(were) better and why?

cheers
