Surprised Eurosport let go of Flecha and Meseguer - Fletcha provides the inside view of an ex-rider in the peleton and Mezeguer seems to have the confidence of the peleton and Sporting Directors who willingly give her interviews.
I can't find where it's confirmed that they let Laura Meseguer go. Ashley House tweeted about him and JAF but not LM.

Does anyone have a confirmation on Laura Meseguer?

I used to like Harmon (the guy Kirby took over from) but I guess he's given up commentating now ... :(
I think he was more or less forced to... are you familiar with Letzgo Hunting?

Care to explain what happened? I don't know the story.

I just googled Letzgo Hunting and found that it was an anitpedophile group. Sounds like the story is pretty ugly...

Sigh.
Once again I feel the need to delve into the metaphorical gutter and pull out my man Carlton Kirby from the steaming pile of, well, you know what.

Let me tell you something about Carlton Kirby. He is a legend among mere mortals in broadcasting.

He is an engaging raconteur, the kind of guy one would like to share a beer by the fireside. He seems like an amiable yet occasionally excitable little fellow; a guy who can make the odd mistake. But let me ask you, dear cyclingnews message board users: Who the hell doesn't make the occasional error?

It's no wonder he becomes a little prickly when responded to vitriol. How would you react if someone screamed hate just because it took you more than three seconds to properly identify a rider in a huge pile-up? Would you unleash a tirade of hate if the guy next to you at a bar said "Oh good gosh! Oh no, Kittel's down!" when in fact the fallen rider was a teammate? I think not. i think you might do a little roll of the eyes and chalk it up to excitability, but you wouldn't take a strip off the poor bloke, would you? Of course not, because you are a civilized human being and you are watching a bike race.

Never forget the fact you are watching a bike race. This is not the Cuban Missile Crisis. It's a gawddamn bike race.
As mentioned earlier, my man Kirby's job is to fill dead air when nothing is happening. It's also his job to light things up at crucial moments of a race. and dare I say, he's really good at calling a sprint. Who gives a schit if he doesn't properly identify the rider in fifth place 200 metres from the line in a bunch gallop? You will find out who it was when they show the replay. For now, just soak up the excitement my man Carlton Kirby exudes in the call.

Also, as a wise person already mentioned in this very thread--a thread full of human excrement--it is the job of the ex-pro sitting beside my man Kirby to fill in the detes. Magnus does a superb job, imo. Kelly knows of what he speaks, but he sounds like he just took a powerful sleeping aid and is about to konk out at any moment. I do not think my man Carlton Kirby should be paired with Sean Kelly. They make each other look bad.

With that said, to sum up: Please do not make me send these messages on a weekly basis.
Respect the man. Respect the legend.
Respect Carlton Kirby, m'kay?

I'm not going to get into an argument with you over Carlton Kirby but you have a right to your opinion and I have a right to mine.

There's nothing you or anyone else can say that will change my mind.

I've never spouted hate to him personally but as a public figure he put himself out there to be criticized, which is what I've done. I think he talks nonsense more often than the "occasional" mistake and can't stand listening to his coverage of bike races. I enjoy listening to just about anyone else that calls themselves a "presenter" or "commentator".

Have a great day. :)

As long as Kirby is on, my TV is on mute. Sometimes a little mood music in the background :)

Things I'd rather listen to:-

A baby screaming
Car alarm at 3 am
Nails down a chalkboard
Heart FM
Liggett and Sherwin
Vuvuzelas
Dentist drill

Kirby has become the sound of cycling for me (whenever I watch British Eurosport). Can't help it. Him and Báckstedt make for a great pair, I think.
He's one of the main reasons why I always try to find a Sporza stream when I can't watch the race on Italian, Swiss or German (German Eurosport) TV, I don't want to listen to that guy, the other British Eurosport commentators are ok.

I agree!
Just the other day Magnus politely corrected my man Carlton's lack of understanding when turning a corner near the end of a race.
Magnus did so with grace, Carlton acknowledged his point and they moved on. No harm no foul. Good on Magnus. Sometimes I get the sense that Kelly is at his wits end with Carlton Kirby, which is why I don't think the two should be paired together.
That said, Sean Kelly's voice is like a lullaby. He know what's going on, but he lacks the understanding/ability to turn on the light when the time comes.
Point being is i'd rather tune in to Kirby's call in a finale than listen to Kelly drone on after the race finale.
There's no shortage of post-race perspective.
But there are very few who can turn on the lights when the race really matters.
My man Kirby is one of them.

It's one and the same, isn't it? :D

I posted this race call a while ago in the spirit of light-hearted banter.
It's fun to talk about this stuff, but it's never meant to be taken seriously.
Please watch the link posted if you have 2 minutes to spare.
It's awesome.
That's why the 400m are my favourite distance...to watch.

Why do the commentators insist on talking over the interviews!
Agree completely. It's not as if most of them can translate what is being said - assuming of course the interview isn't in the commentators native language.

Rob Hatch could translate. Kirby could translate if it was in idiot language.

And if it's in the commentator's native language, chances are it's also in the viewers' native language, though it seems British Eurosport does indeed employ people from other countries.
